Now then, were's my old chippy's belt?

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Now then, were's my old chippy's belt?

This project is for a chap I've known for a few years and he's doing most of the work himself. It's an old 19th century cottage which he bought at auction and it's situated within a nice plot of land. He could have possibly developed a few houses on the land, but his preferrence was to renovate and extend the exiting building.

So far, he's gutted the existing building and built two 2 storey extentions on the back which is now at plate height. He's also had to instal 4k's worth of steel work because the rear of the existing house apparently collapsed during the gutting out stage.

Both of the new two 2 storey extensions will have a gable roof back into the existing main roof and a small flat roof in the middle.

Here's the project to date.

It's been a long time since I last wore my old chippy's belt, but I'm looking forward to this one. It will be ongoing (here n there) with all the internal 1st & 2nd fix work, plus the staircase and other creative features - hopefully.

I've promised to make a start in a bout 3 weeks - eek! :eusa-think:

Should be just in time for the nice weather - on with the shorts and sandals!

It is the "creative features" that have wetted my appetite.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Cheers Andy. Yes, fingers crossed!

I know this chap and he'll give me a quite a long rope when it comes to the creative stuff. I do get carried away though. 8-)

I made a start on the roof job this week. I haven't taken any detailed photos as I'm doing the work on a day rate and the chap I'm doing it for is helping me.

The ridge consists of four pieces of wood bolted to a steel ridge because it's a vaulted ceiling. The rafters are 47 x 170mm C24's at 400mm centres

We've done 3 days and almost finished one of the gables. There's just a few more collars for Pete to do and then the plumb cuts for the fascia boards, then the fascia & soffit boards.

Don't get too excited ladies ;)

I'll be back on this next Tuesday and I'll try and squeeze in some closer shots.

Cheers,

Haha, yep, Pete's idea of safety is no hand rail and a short acro prop supporting the platform planks from a horizontal brace. No scaffold/tower down each side either

It certainly does Chap

I was a bit wobbly for the first few climbs, but I'm okay now. Next week, I'll be dancing on the ridge beam in my wellies and speedos
