A spoon!

So just a little something and a bit different but hopefully of interest.

As I've not yet posted a project thought I'd put this on as the closest I have at the moment! Spent the weekend at a festival and took the opportunity to have a spoon carving workshop. It was 2 hours long and after this time I'd got from a blank to

I have always wanted to try working with green wood and really enjoyed working with the grain and shape that had occurred in the splitting of the wood. It just needs a light sand and a finish, not going to to anything else to it.

I think I may be getting a couple of carving knives soon I enjoyed this so much!! Finally here's a shout of me proud with my spoon. I'm the one on the left, excuse me if I look a little grubby this was day four of the festival, no showers!

Looks good - what tools did you use and do you have to use anything to stop it splitting as it dries out?

In answer to the comments. The wood is Hazel, had a very tight grain and was a bit harder than usual apparently. We only used two knives, both Mora. One was a simple straight knife, think model was 120? Other was a bowl carving knife which had a hooked blade and was one in the 160 series not sure on exact model.

In terms of splitting, I have to say I didn't ask! He recommended rape seed oil to finish, but most seed oils could work - such as flax.

You are now officially a top spoon whittler! 8-)

I reckon you've been watching those 'Plusnet' adds ;)
