You cleaned the magnetic polepieces
So is the auxiliary contact working then?

Auxiliary contact? Is that the little brass strip with little points like on a car?

Quite possibly. The auxiliary contact(s) can be implemented in a number of ways. Usually they are lighter weight than the main three power contacts but operate at the same time. From your video and my description of the tests you should carry out above, they are most like to be on the right hand side of the contactor block (power in at the top, motor terminals at the bottom)

The electrics have been the bane of my life, for nearly 10 days, I dismantled the starter completely to every little nut and bolt cleaned and checked every wire. It still would not play nice. In the end I found some suitable Brooks ones which took me 2 hrs to install I still need to tidy the wires up and add a rope gasket for the door.

I found some flexible conduit in my stash and it cleaned up well

I kept a tally of how many hours it took and it was about 97 hrs.
Heres a little clip of the bobbin part

And heres the disc side, my poor little static converter was chewing its pluck out trying to get that 30"disc spinning. It took over 60 secs to get up to speed.

Looks great!

That disc is like getting a flywheel in motion. Does your inverter limit the starting power like a star delta starter does? I've never used an inverter. Just thinking it must be a heck of a load starting that disc.

Hope you get the kind of profit you deserve if you sell it on. That was some transformation.

I use a static converter which is quite old and tired, Its probably at its limit with this motor and when you factor in that disc which must weigh 12 stone it pushes things even further. The boost on my converter doesn't seem to be working so that wont help.

Mark , despite the electrical problems , it's still bloody marvellous . And the tip I picked up about phosphoric acid is going to be useful . Whats next ?
