Monk's Bench (or Settle) FINISHED

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Paul, do you pre wax the timbers either side of the joints to aid in wiping off the glue squeeze out?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Another fabulous and inspirational piece! I love it. Wish we had room for something similar in our house. Thanks for sharing the process with us. It is a lengthy and time consuming task to produce a thread like this, but much appreciated by we mere mortals. It read like a good novel!

I think this is the first time that you have showed us the back. I hope space can found so that all sides can be viewed as it would be a shame to have it up against a wall.

Thanks Andy. :D

Yes, you could be right there. I may have mentioned in an earlier post about this piece could go anywhere in a room. 8-)

Mike G wrote:Great photos, Paul, and of course, a lovely piece of furniture. I've never mixed oak and walnut, but I certainly will give it a try after seeing this. It just crosses my mind that some walnut somewhere in that plaque would have looked great......but no, it's just brilliant as it is. Definitely the nicest piece of furniture I've seen for a while.

Thanks Mike 8-) Yes, I was very close to suggest making the letters from walnut. Bit late now. :eusa-drool:

That is stunning. My tastes are normally more modern, however is so beautiful I'd have it in my house.

Thanks Matt 8-) I like to see modern, classical, medieval etc all mixed in one big room.

Thanks Rod, very much appreciated. 8-) The client's are collecting the bench from the workshop next week, which will be the first time they've seen it with the naked eye, but they've seen some photos and the feedback is lovely to read. It actually looks better than the photos, so all going well, they will hopefully be very happy. Yep, it's the 'treasure to enjoy and keep' which does it for me. Although always slightly nervous when a client sees their new piece of bespoke furniture for the first time, it's so rewarding when the expressions are joy. 8-)

That isn't a light piece of furniture. I hope they've got a big vehicle, and some help.
