Right then, done, dusted and delivered..............................
Mrs P is over the moon with this little article. She now wants another one to make a pair!
I previously left this thread with a newcomer to the project called Nigel. Well sadly, Nigel was made redundant and is now in a Tesco bag. My intentions were good, but the planning was back-to-front. Maybe next time NIge...
After removing the clamps from the top and a clean up, I was thinking about inlaying a small ebony string, but then thought 'nope' leave it as it is.
I then got on with making the well which is where Nige-the-root was going to live, but things change.
And then I decided to infill the rear frame with a panel instead of having it completely open. Here it is in clamps on the right, with the well, top and front frame to the left.
With the rear frame now made, I needed to connect it with the front frame, so I decided to make some little rails with a rebate which will house the glass shelves.
And in glue assembly.
After making and fitting the base and top profile to the well, I was now ready to glue this to the legs. I did reduce the depth of the well as I now had another idea in mind.
Here are the legs finished and ready to go.
Then glued/screw fixed to the well.
After cleaning up the main body, my last glue up was bringing the base, body and top into one.
And here it be...
The piece of natural wood is something my eldest daughter found 14 years ago and gave to me. It's since been in one of my cars blue tacked to the dashboard, but I've now given it three coats of varnish and brought it indoors. The well is filled with teak shavings - two dried yellow flower heads to follow.
As soon as Mrs P saw this, she said it can't possibly live in the conservatory, so it now stands nicely in our living room.
Considering I pretty much made this as I went along with the project, I'm very pleased with it.
This might not be to everyone's taste, but I like it and Mrs P loves it - unless she's just being polite.
Cheers,
In my previous life, I was a tree.
