Storage unit

I've been using mini systainers for a year or more very since I was given a couple, they are 265x170x70mm in size & ideal for bits & pieces that I need both on site & in the workshop. They clip together which makes them easy to transport especially when carrying several & saves me having 2 lots of tools like sharpening kit, sanding & finishing gear etc for both the van & the shop.

Having recently acquired some more as they were on offer I figured it would be a good idea to make a storage unit for them & as I was over at Jonny D's the other day I took up his offer of cutting & edging some MFC while I was there.

He had some nifty shop made cauls which have a groove to hold the 2mm lipping with upstands to centralise the panels when gluing & clamping the trim to the panels

After an hour in clamps the panels were removed & the edges cleaned up with his laminate trimmer.

Back at my shop it was simply a matter of dominoing the shelves referencing the slots off the bed of the planer & utilising the dominos built in guides

The corresponding slots in the sides of the unit were cut using a spacer with reference marks to guide the cutter

The unit was then glued & clamped together

Once dry the back & top were screwed in place, the unit is small enough to sit under the pillar drill utilising space that would otherwise be wasted.

Cheers chaps.

I'm pleased with how it turned out, more because this is the first time I've used cold glue to apply edge banding & it's worked very well so opens up more options :eusa-think:

Hi Doug, What adhesive did you use?

How is it pulling the systainers out, do you push them from the back?

Looks very tidy.

The adhesive was kantol from Ostermann.

The systainers come out easily by pulling on the front green turn catch, (you can't tell from the photo but I fixed a back to the unit) though being the mini ones there's no weight to them, I went for the drawers for my main systainers as I figured a unit like this wouldn't work as well with those

cheers
