Display Case / Drinks Cabinet (Complete)

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Haha... no probs Jim. Absolutely stunning work! A masterpiece indeed Sir!

Yep, I've had ongoing issues with the Saab and the computer has been in and out of the repair shop too. PC now sorted and the Saab is almost there. I'm going to share the experience of dealing with an 'Arthur Daley' in a new thread soon. :P

Finally a chance to pop over and see the Display Case in the daylight yesterday. Took some better photos and made a rare update to the blog!

After various to'ing and fro'ing of idea's... the client has agreed on a 'Part Deux' / companion piece to the Display Case. A drinks cabinet.

Externally... It is essentially very much the same, the original was to be smaller in size however it ended up the same size due to the amount of glassware the customer would like to store, so to keep the (width) size/ out swing of double doors down we've introduced a pillar, or inset panel for the doors to hang from, this features more of the scorching detailing and a bit of a fun 3D effect running around the piece; might be a bit aesthetically 'Marmite'?

The inside will feature a pull-out preparation area and a stripy mirror and (grey) BE Maple backdrop...the making of which to be figured out; not unusual for me- HA!

Due to it's similarities you might not hear or see much of it until I get to the door panels and interior work. Though I may capture some risqué, shoot-from-the-hip routing to keep Mr G entertained :D

Comments and thoughts welcome...

Jim

Nice one Jim, good to see you've got the drinks cabinet, and looking rather classy and splendid if I don't mind saying - an absolute corker!

I wouldn't let little Rory Mack loose on this one just yet though. ;)

Lol.... This is very true Andy, workshops and lack of sleep... Not good!... Shortly after our first I slipped the sharp corner of a chisel into my left palm and ended up having minor surgery to fix up a two inch gash! (Sleepy) Plonker

Let's see how we get on with the blow torch

I'm up to here...! The scorching work to get 6/7mm panels has been very tricky... These are 2mm constructional Oak on a ply core, with tiddly dominos jointing the strips.

I need to find or come up with an atractive solution to stop the doors from clapping on the cabinet when open... The best so far has been a quadrant casement window stay, thoughts welcome.

Funnily enough I was buying a van full of oak today, and the adjoining pile was maple. Your previous piece crossed my mind when I saw that.

Now, I'll be fine, so long as you don't take a router to a finished shaped leg, again. That did me no good at all.

Thought I'd share a few photos of this bohemoth of a drinks cabinet, which seems to be taking forever

I'm about to fix the legs on, before progressing onto the external beading (free-style routing). Then it's glue assemble, fix in the mirror veneers and deliver....(end of July)

Oh ...and there's a lighting scheme to figure out

I've still not come up with a solution to stop the doors from clapping on the cabinet... Perhaps I should of used 'Sausages' (SOSS hinges ) as their 180 deg travel would of done the job.

Anyway - I'm at that 11th hour delium point where I lie awake wondering if the whole thing is going to collapse under the weight of itself and contents (bottles)

that is gorgeous. I share your fears about the weight which IIRC is all taken on the dominoes that hold the legs to the sides?

Thanks Andy.

Each leg has Three threaded M6 inserts. Hex bolts fix through the maple stiles...(top, mid bottom) Then a stretcher connecting all the legs underneath.
