I'm after a heavy texture by brushing out the burnt (soft) summer wood grain. It can take quite few applications to ebonise with a dye. I remember doing some Oak chairs in a Macintosh style and it was a bit of a chore.Andyp wrote:Would be be less risky to ebonise the wood?

Did you use a spiral downcut cutter?
Go on Andy... It's funAndyp wrote:Defo an outdoor job with that flame thrower . Thanks for juggling the camera and showing us how, although not something I will be trying anytime soon.
Thanks Coley. TBH.... What I'm trying to achieve with the torch is grain definition and texture (after brushing out) and a reasonable amount of darkening to start things off... It definitely needs the ebony dye to bring it to Black otherwise after brushing you do get brown streaks which in his own right is quite an interesting finish.Coley wrote:They look great ! It's gonna be something really special when it's finished
When I burnt mine I used the same process except for the ebony stain. When I applied some oil it looked o.k,but with a browny tinge on oak. Is it the flame for mainly the texture then and the dye to make it consistently black ?
