Second Hand Rose!

Postby Malc2098 » 28 Oct 2019, 19:00

Although the deck/verandah/roof has been taking a lot of my time, I've still been pootling in the creative annexe trying to be creative with secondhand/used/preloved stuff.

Fist, I found an ex demo Axminster Trade bench top Pillar Drill on Facebook Marketplace and moved my older secondhand one on to my son.

Next, one of the mates helping me with the roof brought round an old piece of laminate worktop to cut a hole for a sink unit in his utility of the house he's just moved into. So, I used the cutout to make a table to sit on the drill cast table and used some of Coley's dog ends to border it with oak and make the table clamps.

Next, I was fortunate to find some Tee Track and jig making knobs, bolts screws etc again on Facebook Marketplace. Some of them had been preused, but most were new. I also found some good value aluminium extrusion 60x30 from a firm in Leicester.

I dadoed a couple of grooves for the track, made a couple of stops for the fence and routed out an aperture to drop the sacrificial lump in, et voila, as they say en France. ('scuse the absence of the accent)

On the drill, I like the comfy handles for the senior citizen

The thread title has me scratching my head, but the drill 'n stuff looks great. I wonder if a plastic laminate might be a bit slippery as a table, but if it works it works.

Not sure about that.

I have something that does the same job that I just G clamp onto the drill table when i need to repeat drill things. I couldn't leave it there all the time as it would get in the way.

Maybe revise it so it can slip on and clamp to the table and come off again easy? Or maybe you have loads of room and it's not a problem. Nicely made anyway.

I made something similar for my bench drill, not as smart as yours of course, but time and time again I find I have to remove it to get the depth of drill/hole required. I need a bigger one I suppose.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Ah, I have the same drill press... The handle works loose from time to time, I whipped out the whole safety switch shenanigans... Apart from that, I'm quite happy with it. I keep meaning to make a wide table for it

Yes, my handle works loose, too.

The safety cover bits get in the way of the depth stop, so they might have to be whipped off.

I'll have a look again, I think the handle just needs a Sprung washer

Me too Mike. A little Googling has me suspecting that the link is because it's a second hand tool, and Second hand Rose appears to be a song by Fanny Brice (and latterly Barbra Striesand), but that's as good a link as I can come up with...
