My son asked me to make him a box for something he is making

Simple box in MDF. We added a monogram to make it a little special

Some fine black nappa leather over the top.

After covering the outside of the box I cut some card and lined the inside with red suede.

Sorry Phil I cant say what is in the jar.
I can say it has its own coaster.

I should say the lid of the box is embossed and the coaster is debossed.

Well that looks to me that you cut the initials form the board used in the coaster and re used them on the box lid, very clever!
You are really good with the leather it look great.

Dave

Having the ability to use leather like that opens up a whole world of possibilities. A simple box suddenly looks absolutely spectacular! :eusa-clap: :eusa-clap:

If only I was that good with the scroll saw Dave the coaster was cut from 3mm mdf board. Which I sealed it was then pressed into wet leather. I then used it as a template to cut the one for the top of the box from artists grey board.

The black leather is very fine less than 0.5 mm So I was able to wrap the whole lid in one piece.
This was actually the first time I have done this with fine leather I usually work with thicker leather or suede.
I am really pleased with the way it has turned out thanks for the kind words.

Very nice work, looks very classy

Where do you buy your leather, I made some boxes a while back and lined them with suede but had to buy ½ a side at £26?

That box and embossed work does look very good and all for what, from here, looks like a jar full of pebbles.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Hi Rod
I mainly use pig suede which is sold by the skin (as is all suede) Generally about £40 shipped from GH leathers 01933 311116 sales@leathermerchants.com although they are working at the moment it might take them a little longer to respond.
If you want smaller pieces they also have goat and lamb,
Goat and lamb skins are smaller (cheaper) and finer sometimes they are finished as suede on both sides,
I used lamb on this project for the outside and pig suede on the inside.
