Folding Sailboat Table

Postby Dave R » 22 Jul 2014, 16:52

So here's the current project in my shop. We'll this is the concept, anyway. It's a folding table to mount on the rail at the front of the steering pedestal on my sailboat. The white table is an existing thing I scavenged off an old anesthesia machine. It already has a folding/locking mechanism built into it. I'm working on some fold out wings that will hold cups or bottles. I built a prototype wing but I'm not happy with the way it holds things. It needs to be a little deeper and I think I need to find some sort of rubbery material from which I can make some fingers to allow it to grip smaller diameter shapes. I think I'll also add slots on the sides of the outer holes to take handles for mugs.

'This is only a sketch'

:)

more a work of art I'd say.

If cups need gripping though will items on the table stay put?

Thank you.

No. Things won't stay put on the table though I will probably put fiddles on the sides. Generally we wouldn't have anything on the table except if the boat is at anchor or in the slip. It's nice to have access to water bottles while sailing though.

Thank you Rob and Rod.

You might not believe me but that's really not all that difficult to do.
