Sugestions for a lighter finish?Hi

Help with choosing the right coloured milkpaint to slather all over your new project.

Sugestions for a lighter finish?Hi

Postby tabs » 03 Jul 2018, 16:51

I'm just reupholstered the drop in seat on an old stool I bought, new webbing/foam, fabric etc.

I want a lighter finish than is there and am wondering what route to take.

Strip it with a chemical stipper or sand it? Them wax or oil?

First time I've done anything like this so open to suggestions.

Oh also it needs a slight repair as some moulding came off, so i' thinking scrape off glue, reglue and use gaffer tape till its dry?

Have a look at these threads where I restored coffee tables.

Also the finishes that I used.

That bit should glue back OK, but use blue masking tape, not gaffer tape, you don't want any residue from the tape glue left behind.

My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

One problem you might find when you’ve removed the dark finish is that the stool might have been made from different timbers.
Much harder to cover up with light finishes.

Yes, that was the problem I had on CT-1.
I had to stain some pieces to match the darker wood ones.

Ok Rod, I hadn't realised that, if it looks like theyve used different woods may have to think about a painted finish although I'd rather not, its just that dark a finish does not fit in the room its going in.
