Lime wash on oak flooring

LOML hates anything orange...which seems to be what happens as soon as you introduce any oil based finish to oak. So I was wondering if a lime wash on oak flooring would give a 'greyer' look?

No iron or steel anywhere, obviously.

But questions ?? Wearing resistance ?

What about fuming? No protection but would darken then you could protect over the top with something like Osmo?

Lime wash on oak flooring

Postby Rod » 22 Sep 2017, 16:43

I’ve limed a pair of oak bookcases I made but that was using liming paste followed by a clear wax.
I’ve also “limed” some pine panelling with white Matt emulsion, sanded off and covered with a clear water based varnish.
Both finishes have proved durable but not subjected to footfall!
Oak that I’ve treated with osmo or PU has tended to go yellowish rather than orange.

Not used the osmo raw. But the quality of other osmo stuff is top rate. I love using the stuff. Used it on the pine floor and used their topoil on the work surface.

Many thanks, guys, for the input. Special thanks to Doug as I'd not heard of Polyx Raw.

It’s fairly new to me Rog, I’m making a table in Maple at the minute & asked Jonny if he could recommend a suitable finish that he had experience of for light timber & he said Polyx raw.
I’ve used several Osmo products over the last couple of years & have been very happy with them so hopefully as the tin of raw turned up last week I’ll be as happy with that as well.
