Osmo - how many coats?

Help with choosing the right coloured milkpaint to slather all over your new project.

Osmo - how many coats?

Postby Rod » 05 Jun 2018, 11:20

Finishing off my sycamore chest, I’ve given it two light coats with a light sanding between.
It still feels like it’s lifting the grain in that it feels a bit rough in places.
How many coats do an other users normally apply?

If you applied it by brush then 2. More than that and apparently it might not try properly.

If you applied it by cloth I think you could do more as they go on thin.

I used a brush so perhaps I’ll top it with a hard wax using fine wire wool?

Maybe even a green scotch brite pad would do the job.

I thin the stuff 50/50 with white spirit (it's too gloopy straight out the pot) and then apply two thin brushed coats; cut back 'twixt with some 600g Abranet. Then finish with a decent wax polish over the top (I use the Swedish stuff from CHT but be prepared to take out a second mortgage when you click 'buy') applied with a grey Webrax pad from the old firm - Rob
I no longer work for Axminster Tools & Machinery.

I don't use the stuff any more if I can help it, but when I did, I used it pretty much as Rob described (without the expensive wax). Or, I would wipe on/ wipe off a 3rd coat with a cloth.
