This day I are been mostly...

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

This day I are been mostly...

...Gardening.

We have finally got ourselves in gear and started to get the garden sorted this summer. After moving in 2 weeks before our firstborn arrived (six and a half years ago) we've done lots and always wanted to put our own stamp on the garden and finally found the mojo to start.

One thing that needed doing was this small bed next to the house that did have a standard rose in that hadn't been looked after and was straggly and unruly. I have done my best to prune it back into some shape and get some body to it but finally accepted defeat and decided to do something else.

I didn't take pics of the rose or digging out the roots but after that I dumped a load of compost in there then decided to move the Hebe, so we went from this...

To this... Hebe Magic Summer in the front, 2 * Lavender in the middle and a white flowering Clematis to give some height against the wall. Clematis should give a height and spread of 10ft and with some training should fill that wall between lounge and study doors and go nicely up the wall. I do like a good bit of wall coverage to take some of the hard edges off a building. :)

And this is where I re-sited the Hebe, in a bed that I have lots of new planting in from last week. Lots of perennials of varying heights and spreads to ultimately fill that space with colour and visual interest. Bee and butterfly friendly plants in the main too as we always have a lot of both (lovely big bumble bees) in normal circumstances so I want to further encourage that.

Today I've been mainly eating.
Wife's birthday and 12 months since my first op.
4hrs eating and drinking with the family at a local French Restaurant

But the last few weeks gardening and decorating including fitting new skirting boards.
Made the mistake of using aluminium primer that took 4 coats of trade paint to cover over the dark silver colour!!

Or one coat of Zinsser Cover Stain !!

We had to buy a new lawnmower as our GALMI has recently had an operation and so won't be around (if at all TBH). To my surprise, I discovered I rather find mowing therapeutic if the sun is shining. Headphones on...good rock music. Lines got a bit wobbly when my 'Dad' dancing got a bit carried away.

Nice work Mark. Just how do you keep the dogs from digging it all up again?

Now that you have remembered where the spade is and how to use it will you be starting on the foundations of the hanger soon?

Cheers Andy

We'll see how she does but every time she goes near the beds I chase her off! :)

Footings will start in summer, I've put off the build until my builder gets back from Poland in August so no rush.

Got the digger lined up from a mate and he can also provide the skip and get rid of the spoil for me for nothing so my cost savings are looking good so far...

Also managed to source reclaimed bricks to match the house at just over 70p per brick for Cheshire handmade so ordering them tomorrow.

:D

It was intentional Mike

A play on words on a Fast Show sketch character called Jesse who popped out of his shed to share pearls of wisdom and spoke that way.

It is a generational humour thing Mark which we have shown in the past just confuses others.

A bit like me making references to the Angus Prune Tune perhaps?

Brilliant! I completely get the Fast Show reference, but the Angus Prune Tune reference goes straight over my head. The only conclusion I can therefore reach is that I reside firmly in the young half of TWH2 members :eusa-dance:

I reckon that the relevant window of time is from when you are sitting up and paying attention - say mid teens through to when you are busy, time is precious and you don't watch much TV or films and that can vary.

Outside that window you generally don't get the references.

Maybe you are more of an "under the bedclothes" type Roger and recall Horace Batchelor?

Yes, Keynsham, Bristol - laboriously spelled out each time.
