OSX Email odd characters

Postby Andyp » 02 Nov 2016, 14:06

I use the Mail client on OSX and, with the exception of mail from one contact, accents and special characters appear without problem.

But this happens when I receive mail from said contact.

C'est une trĂšs bonne nouvelle

should of course read, C'est une très bonne nouvelle.
Every accent they use appears a mess

I would like to think that the problem is at their end but what are they doing to cause this?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Do you know what machine, OS and mail client they are using? Could be an odd font.

Changing the font was my first thought. I'll ask about the mail client. My suspicion is it might be something weird and obscure.

What ? Like Windows ? ;)

My money is on a weird font that they are using.

Interestingly, Googling trĂšs comes up with quite a few hits. Most strange.

Very strange. Looking at the hex code for those two characters, it is
02 01 and 61 01 respectively.

The other characters have the correct code to display ...for example t 74 00

Note the 00 and 01 ...that has to be something to do with it although where that comes from I don't know. The e acute code in hex is E9 00 ..there's that 00 again.

Something to do with unicode ?

Thanks Roger, I was not expecting that level of analysis. I'll have to look up hex code now just to find out what you are talking about.
Yep had a look and am now even more baffled.

Might be the weekend before I know more.

Perhaps an upgrade to the new OS Sierra will improve things?
