What's in a Word(s)

Postby Rod » 05 Nov 2016, 13:44

I spent hours the other day on the internet, trying to find replacements sink plugs for our Franke bowls.
It was really the rubber washers I needed and was prepared to pay for the whole unit but not the £17 each that I kept coming up with!
I eventually found a cloned version at £3.60 which, even if the metal part didn't fit, I could probably use the washer, so I ordered a couple.
The next day, for some strange reason, I searched again and stumbled across Central Services Uk which is Franke's parts arm and found a matching photo but they are not listed as "sink plugs" or anything like it but "Grill for Basket Chrome"!!
No wonder I couldn't find them.
The good news a new complete unit costs £6 odd and the washers £2 - those people on the net, selling at £17, were making quite a profit!

It is quite a problem sometimes finding the right search term. You know what you want but what is it called..

I find 'thingumeejig' usually works and if that fails then 'gubbins' often does the trick

which is why I prefer a printed book to look through until I see the right bit.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

I find that if you get somewhere near a few word description of the thingumyjig and put that into google IMAGE search, you can usually stumble on a picture what you want, click on it to get the proper name from the associated website.
