Indeed I can even see sunshine. :) Although why do window installers need to wear wellington boots.

Great to see more progress.

That scribing was shocking, but that join? Where in the run is the join? Surely they can't look at that and deem it acceptable...?

Roger,

I have to agree with Mark, it's bloody awful.

I used to fit kitchens between 20- 150K, it was always the same sort of problems with 80% of granite company's, poor workmanship with either manufacture or installation, to reduce the problems we used to get them to return the templates when they fit the granite, at least it pointed to the culprit.

The joints should be cock on, if the granite thickness does not match , reject them, the joints are usually filled with tinted Akime, even colour matched to dark and light colouration of the stonework.

On some of the crystal/crumble granites they back them witn the fibreglass mesh to add a bit of strength, this should be removed and at least a honed finish to the underside of the worktop overhang.

The worktop fit to the wall can be very accurate with good templates and CNC machining but most of the time they prefer cutting on a beam saw as it is far quicker.

Two things I would suggest is make sure they do not use Akime ( 2 part resin ) to stick the work tops to the cabinets, if you are still unhappy and they have to replace the granite they will wreck the cabinets try to remove them, all the tops need is a couple of blobs of silicone or a couple of beads inside the cabinets.

Finally follow up your issues with an email to the company, they have an uncanny way of backing down from their promises.

Best of luck

Faced with 14 cold water connections and 9 hot water connections to make I had to come up with some solution to the problem of keeping water supplied to some part of the house, while having other pipes open, sticking through plasterboard but not connected etc.

After much head scratching I came up with this 22mm manifold for the cold water and a second one for hot.

Rather chuffed with the idea.

Good plan. I've something similar in my loft. Very convenient for maintenance too.

OK....thought I'd gather up a few photos across the board.

This was the last bedroom upstairs and the one of most concern as the plaster had blown significantly in one corner with obvious signs of damp. Not surprising considering the state of the water tables (now fixed as previously posted). When we removed the plasterboard on the external walls, we found it saturated as well as the manky fibre-glass insulation. The photo doesn't really do justice to the amount of water.

Image

At least it wasn't as bad as this wall in another property we looked at !
Image

My builder had an industrial-size dehumidifier and we ran it for a week pulling out about 60 litres a day :o

That brought it down to a level whereby my proposal for Phase 2 drying seemed do-able. There will be an open fire in the room below. In other rooms upstairs, I got them to plug the gaps at the top of the walls behind the studding with old fibreglass but for this bedroom I'm keeping them open. Downstairs, on either side of the fireplace, I will cut apertures in the wall/Kingspan covered with Hit'n'Miss type vents. So as the fire burns, it will draw a stream of air down behind the studwall/Kingspan thus gradually drying out the remaining dampness in the wall.

The green dehumidifier is just in shot left of frame here. And another original Georgian fireplace.

Image

Image

I think that they were running out of time/budget by this point as the studding left a lot to be desired and a lot of the dwangs were either non-existent or dodgy. Many of the studs were out of alignment and needed pushing or pulling into the right position and fixing with metal brackets top the wall behind. This is where all the time and money has gone....prepping each room before they even start to plaster.

And, of course, not forgetting the previous owners ghastly colour scheme.

Image

A different approach to this wall. A lot of the internal walls had very flexible studding. Also the joins between the plasterboards didn't always sit on a dwang and so the plaster had cracked down the join. Up until this point, I'd bought into the recommendation to overboard but since another plasterer had pointed out that the original walls could just as easily be improved by using lots of screws into the studding then there really was no need to overboard. Now why didn't I hear about this at the start ? The real reason is that the plasterers find it much easier to plaster on virgin plasterboard rather than a blue-gritted' wall.

This was also a milestone (achieved about a month ago) when the last piece of scaffolding came down in the hall.

More to come another day.

Mmmm...good question. I'd like to think that the bulk of the building and dirty work will be done by end Oct.

But then that leaves me with the uphill struggle to get ready enough that we can move in in December. Probably without any oak flooring down upstairs ...maybe not even decorated which is a bit of a bugger as it's great having strong builders onsite for the heavy lifting !

Central heating boiler and oil tank supposed to be coming today. Radiators towards the end of the month...but walls need painting behind them first and the sizings mean lots of fiddling with pipework. I'm putting off going up into the loft to fit all the down lighters. Also guess that most internal doors will be missing. Three replacement windows coming end Sept.

Mind boggling incompetence.

Ordered a fuel tank from The Fuel Tank shop. Delivery scheduled for last Friday.

Friday afternoon comes and no sign. Ring up the company to be told the delivery company forgot to put it on the vehicle but they can either deliver Monday morning or Saturday morning. Monday morning is fine, says I.

Monday morning comes and goes. Ring up. Tank coming between 3pm and 5pm. Arrives. Looks as if it might be damaged. Send photos to the manufacturer who says they will swap out as don't want the chance of a leak.Fair play. Top marks. Will be with me today.

Just rung to chase.

Groundhog Day. The knuckle-dragging pillocks at the delivery company forgot to put it on the vehicle.

Mind boggling incompetence.
