How to Read Small Print

Postby Rod » 19 Mar 2017, 12:40

I was trying to find out what the small round bit of plastic did which came with a Pegler Basin Tap.
The instructions were so tiny and printed in grey that even using a magnifying glass they were difficult to read.
But using my phone and photographing them I can zoom in and read them clearly.
But why do they print them like that in the first place!

I think they print them like that, because they can. I had problems with a food pack where the details were printed in dark red on a black background.
The resolution of modern printing is so high my old eye does have trouble with the small print, I will be trying your idea next time I struggle.

Dave

We went for a meal in a restaurant a few months ago where none of us could read the menu it was printed so small and grey on grey paper. Not only that the room was dimly lit.

Had my magnifying glass out the other day to look at the cooking instructions on a food packet! And that is with reading glasses on, too!

And yet websites seem to be going the other way with the Janet and John style of design. Lots of white space, few words per line and very big font

Search for magnifiers in the App Store. The are a number of apps which magnify the image directly onto the screen without having to first photograph and then enlarge a picture.

My gripe is the magazines that print black on colour so that it is impossible to read. I should say that I am fortunate enough to have excellent eyesight with my glasses on.

Thanks Woolf - I did a search and found that ios10 has one built in which can be set up in Settings.
Once set up 3 pushes on the Home button brings it into play,
