Can I shift this without dismantling

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Thoughts now turn on how we put it back. The re laid terrace will be, I think 2" higher than current.

just make a bit of a slope if needed with timber and packers.
Do you have a ride on mower you can tow it with ?

Well done - I suppose getting it back will be a repeat event. Will you have helpers still?

Rod, I will need help to get it back as I have said the new terrace will be an inch or two higher.

As Roger hinted at earlier the comments and suggestions of the forum were invaluable. Thanks all.

Actually this had been staring me in the face all the time on my YT home page!

FF to about 5 minutes to see the movable firewood shelter.

Dear Matthias. He's such a treasure!

Clever chap indeed. I am surprised he would throw away those branched logs. With a good splitting wedge, a maul and some brute force they would split.

how much does rain affect the exposed fronts and sides ?
How much do you have in round the fire drying inside ?

Once the wood is seasoned the odd shower soons dries off the logs. I tend to take from the middle high up to start with and move the wood from the front further back as I go which means I only bring in dry wood. Snow is the worst as it blows in everywhere but we get very little of that.

I am not sure what impact changing from south facing to west facing will have on the wind & rain. We have wait and see.

I keep about 3-4 days worth in the garage and only about 2 days max under the stove. I rarely take the stuff from garage only is if it pi$$ing down when i want some. Most days (when the family are all out at work or school) during the winter I only need to light the fire at about 4pm.

when we 1st moved in here .. and got the stove , I was all excited !
collecting chopping stacking , drying .. burning , cleaning out the ash ..
UGG ! MAN ,.. FIRE !!! .. lol

after 10-15 yrs or so , the novelty wears off a bit !

and in the stupidest of stupidly cold winters .. the wood pile just disappears !

Luckily
1 we haven't had and v.cold winters for a few years.
2 My BIL works for redland tiles .. about 10 mins away , and I can get all the pallets I want for free :-)

Still .. it tries the "romance" of it all sometimes !

What you need is a very large diseased Beech tree in your back garden (daughters)

I've been doing it for 10 years. We benefit from a south facing well insulated house. Solar gain on sunny days in considerable. Concrete floor upstairs acts as a good heatsink once the fire has been on a few hours. Opening the windows to cool the house down in a middle of winter gives us plenty of fresh air. No romance just practical. I do regret not heating the house during the first winter on electricity just to have an idea if wood burning is cost effective.
We do heat the kitchen and upstairs bathroom in the morning with lecky.

I have nothing else to do during the day ;) so stacking splitting and carting around is just more excercise.
I do not think therefore I do not am.
