Folding ladders

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Folding ladders

Postby Andyp » 07 Dec 2017, 11:58

Does anyone have one of these, or similar.

Image

In work platform mode are the really designed to be stood on? They typically show a maximum load of 150kg but surely there must be a tremendous strain on the central hinge. when stood upon.

I need something to help me get to the top of the hedge, 2m high. I currently use two workmates and an 8 foot scaffold board but that is a PITA to keep moving and I have about 70m of hedge to cut.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

I bought one of these for SD and SSiL when they moved into their new (1930s) bungalow in Aberdeen.

The short answer is yes, but I clamped lengths of timber 90 degrees to the axis of the ladder at the feet at each end to stop it toppling over when standing on the platform.

SSiL uses it for their hedge.

I have the Zarges version of that combination ladder and it’s very stable, I weigh approaching 18st and have no issues using it,I did change the board that came with mine to a 225 x 45 joist off cut. Perfect for hedge cutting.

I have one, the hinges have locking latches which take most of the load. The platform on mine is two metal plates and they have dimples and holes to improve grip. I use mine to cut our 6' hedge.

My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

Thanks Chaps. just been to the local shed and I know realise that the metal platforms are of differing lengths so rather than meeting in the middle and putting all the weight on the central hinge one is long enough to reach to the next rung.

Something for the inlaws to put under the tree for me ;)

If those horizontal feet extensions do not prevent toppling I will no likewise, thanks.
