Where about in Leeds?
The brickwork looks a bit like rusted steel cladding.

I admire the craftsmanship but it’s pretty darn fugly isn’t it. Architects are ruining our country.

How about Poundbury? I had an opportunity of doing a bit of work there recently.

Good design can be done.

In this image you're looking at a well known supermarket!

The pics are the back of the Leeds, Victoria gate development (worth a Google to see more). TBF I should of taken some pictures of the other buildings which put it in better context, on its own it is a bit of an ugly duckling. The top of the building has that popular rusty panel effect. The site as a whole imo is a good development with some attractive features. However I believe it's not bringing in the retail revenue as hoped.

It has some stiff competition with the beautiful Victoria QTR over the road.... And a rather large chap hanging from the ceiling... Who reminds me of the engineers from Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

So I'm not so sure it's the architects who are ruining the country, but the planners might be letting the developers get away with providing the cheapest, blandest environment in which to live and work.

BTW, that statue above is of the late Queen Mother.

Currently waiting the outcome of pp for development of 5,000 'affordable' houses ie. a town on the green belt, ancient woodland and grade II listed site right next our village - madness.

I was offered a course many years ago at Oxford Brookes to study architecture, but I decided against it. Looking back, I don't regret it at all. I've had my fair share of working with planning policies on small developments and I found it all too frustrating and stressful. These guys are a law unto themselves.

Designing and making furniture is much less stressful. :D

Cool pix Jim. 8-)

Lovely photos here.

Jimmy, you did well to shoot against the sky and retain so much detail. Excellent technique. :eusa-clap:

I love County Arcade, it is stunning, the renovation work they did was amazing. I vividly remember having to cross Victoria Street in the dark and rain between the arcades before it was re developed with the roof.
