Any idea what it is ? NAFF strike again

Any idea what it is ? NAFF strike again

Postby RogerS » 25 Feb 2018, 09:49

...or Naff strike again.

Despite my objection to ever buying anything again from Naff, Chief Designer wanted Naff fridges to replace the ones that I cocked up on ordering. Arrived yesterday. Nearly had a repeat episode of the debacle that we had this time last year with Arrow XL but luckily I'd kept all the email addresses of key people who were able to ensure a (relatively) smooth delivery.

So..unpacked but in true Naff tradition, there is this item which I haven't got a clue as to what to do with it. It doesn't appear on the usual hieroglyphic sheet.Or in the User Manual. Doesn't even appear on the list of spare parts on their website. Two fridges...two weird objects.

Anyone any idea what they are ? No-one in at Naff over the weekend to ask but I expect tomorrow I will be told that they can't tell me owing to Health and safety.....

No idea Roger but have you tried using your image to do an image search on Google?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

It does a bit but there's only the one per fridge and it's quite large ...about 3 x 4 inches.

Roger does the fridge have a filtered water dispenser?, i very vaguely remember having a loose part that looked similar on a Bosch fridge/freezer we installed in a new kitchen.
Due to a major leak in said fridge we had a engineer out to try and repair the leak,( in the end it took 3 fridges before we had one that didn’t leak) he said that the loose spare part was to do with the water filter assembly.

Nice bit of lateral thinking, Harvey, but it's only a bog-standard one.

Good link, Rod....will try it out.

Maybe they have a lot of odd bits in the factory and put a random one in each box instead of having to pay someone to take them away.

Plug socket converter for EU/UK? Apple do some really weird designs for this type of thing - the circular hole looks as if it could take a cable. It might make no sense when supplied with a UK 3 pin plug, but perfect sense if you get it in a different territory with an alternative socket/plug type?

But there's no metal inside it. Good idea, though.

Any idea what it is ?

Was it loose or part of the packaging?
Could be to protect the pins of a 3 pin plug from doing any damage.
I’d put it away and wait until there appears to be a need for it.
I’ve got a box full of items that came with various appliances that seemed to have no function and I’ve still not used any of them.

IIRC it was inside one of the bags with the butter dish etc. Definitely not to protect a plug. I'd like to know what it is otherwise Sod's Law says it's needed at the back or somewhere that means I have to take them back out again.

I’d be surprised if it’s not pictured somewhere in the instructions, they normally are.
Failing that contact Neff?

First line support at Naff unable to identify the part. Sending an image to the spares department to identify.

Bizarre.

Predictably no response from Naff.

Anyway, I decided to press on but have now stopped for the day before I drag those two CoS's behind the car and down to the tip. Did you install your Naff stuff yourself, Rod ? If so, can you pop round please ?

Interior design excellent. The rest ? Pah!

Compare and contrast - Zanussi freezer and Naff fridge(s)

Zanussi - installed including door frontal and all aligned in a couple of hours.
Naff - one day later and no closer to getting one in let alone two.

Instructions

Zanussi - crystal clear

Naff - make coffee and sit down to read the hieroglyphics. Turn hieroglyphics upside down. Perhaps they make sense that way ? Make second cup of coffee and try again. Through the fog a glimmer of understanding.

Adjustment of height

Zanussi - built-in. So s..m..o..o..t..h in operation. A delight.

Naff - you're given a kit of bits, consisting of a long piece of rod with a flat on either end and a bit of plastic like a hex nut that slides over the flat at one end. You then stick this 300mm bit of rod through a hole in the front and then fish around trying to find the effing slot at the back. And failing. Finally you get it in the hole. Adjust. Graunch. Graunch. Graunch. Surely there is something wrong ? Drag fridge out to check. Try adjusting while it is outside. No, that's the way it is.

I'll stop now...hyperventilating. Tomorrow is another day. Oh, should mention though that when you fit the door according to their 'instructions' it's too low by 10mm. Go figure.

Last time...ever...ever..ever we will buy Naff. SWMBO has had enough of me cussing.

No sorry they were under counter fridges fitted professionally as well as a combination oven and a “normal” oven.

Therein lies the rub. I guess that if you fit the damn things day-in day-out then you develop your own method for bludgeoning them into submission.

As I sit here typing this, I have this looming feeling of a harbinger of doom, an apotheosis of angst, a Corbyn-moment (you know, just when you think it can't get any worse .......).
