Snow-watch

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

We had a visitor this morning. Sadly there didn't appear to be any bugs or grubs about.

I can hear him (or her) hammering on a tree down the road when I've been working on the 'shop.

Apologies for picture quality - full telephoto through double glazing!

For those who were silly enough to venture yesterday, I hope you all got home safely! :eusa-whistle: :eusa-think:

Andy, sorry matey - no pun was intended dear fellow. I hope they name the next storm something like Foragieboomwobblebottom. I can just hear the warnings on the TV. :P

This is what our motors look like this morning. Mrs P's Coop is sheltered, but the ice on all the glass is amazing.

I do feel for those people still stranded. If I had a 4x4, I'd be out there helping those who need it.

I just about got some visiting relatives back to their B&B yesterday evening but I only just managed to get the car back on the drive before it lost grip. Iced in today so we can’t go anywhere until it melts. All buses seem to be cancelled and a train has been stuck in the station overnight. We’re well stocked with food so we don’t need to go anywhere luckily.

I filled up my car on Monday, as it had flagged up a low fuel warning, and noticed lots of pumps were empty.
Read later about panic buying, which is a bit odd cause folks shouldn’t be driving about.

This is very reassuring for us... We're just below the left nut, so we should be in the clear now.

Just don't cough. :D

Reminds me of a story about one of the BT labs at Martlesham where they had the BT logo on the wall that was pivotable.

Sun out this morning and definitely warmer. Big slushy icy pond on the road outside.
Time to do a bit of path clearing.

Had a snow report from my son over in Wales who tells me they’ve definitely got 9” of snow over there

Had another visitor.

This time it was a redwing feeding on the cotoneaster berries. There were about 20 of them, but the rest did a runner leaving this one on his (or her) own.

The Redwings visited me in early December and stripped my trees bare

And then picked the ground clean:

It's all melting here too - goodie! 8-)

I only like snow for a couple of days and then I want it all gone.

Update of the scenes here in Dorset...

Mrs P ventured out to work today by herself, so I took the hounds up to one of our regular places for their walk.

These two little happy chappies have had much fun in the snow.
Image

Image

Image

The farmers were clearly busy over the last couple of days ploughing through the snow drifts. Some areas look like they were quite deep at 6'+ in places.
Image

Image

And here's a view looking towards Somerset - not much snow to be seen.
Image

It won't be long before we'll be walking the hounds in our shorts and Panama hats, fighting off the wasps and whinging about the heat.

Back to work tomorrow - in catch up now.

Jolly good...

I also went for a wee walk this morning. Would that I could report similar 'progress' !

Our drive isn't too bad

Image

and the single track no-through road that feeds the four properties up here isn't too bad either.

Image

Some drifting against the walls but there's even bare tarmac in some places.

Image

So all good then. Should be able to get out tomorrow and get vital supplies....OK...beer. I carried on walking keen to see what state the very steep hill was in.

Cue 'Sinfonia Antarctica' ice-wall music

Image

That drift is 6ft high by 10 ft deep and it's not the only one. No, Sirree.

Image

All the way down the hill

Image

We ain't going anywhere soon. I'm told that the farmer who lives up here has a feed lorry coming mid-week and so needs it cleared. He's got a local chap with a digger on the job but it's slow work apparently as the stuff can't be pushed up the hill, there are no margins to dump it on and so it's a question of bucketful, reverse back, dump, drive back and so on.

Mind you it is thawing

Image

and this shot tells me that I need to improve the loft insulation.

Wow, Roger!

We ventured out today. Went to Taunton and there was much less snow in the fields on our return, the temperature went up 4 or 5 degrees while we were out.
