It's well known, public roads are a big killer in our country and it's not the machines, it's the people in control of them, or rather, not in control.
When I was a bike rider years ago, I was one of those idiots riding at silly speeds, bum hanging off the bike round those bends, pulling the front wheel into the air etc etc. But looking back, I feel very lucky for not hurting anyone else but myself. These days as an ex-rider, I try to be more observant on the road for their sake, but you cannot avoid missing some of these riders, especially those who ride super bikes and believe they're Valentino.
The link below will take you to a video clip which was uploaded to put a message out for all motorists to adhere to the speed limit.
Consisting of two men in their 40's riding super bikes on Cornish roads at ridiculous speeds. The odds are clearly against them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmErhBaffuoI've seen many of these videos and they're quite sobering to watch. Although the law has got tighter over the years, I do wonder if they should be much much tighter for cars & bikes that exceed a certain threshold of power - difficult one I know. Dash cams have proved to show good evidence for convicting some of the idiots. Maybe that's the answer - all new vehicles should have integral dash cams continuously running and streaming back to a huge central computer.
In my previous life, I was a tree.
