Some bits I inherited

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Some bits I inherited

Postby techauthorbob » 04 Apr 2018, 22:31

I have inherited various bits from a relatives workshop some time ago and have identified some of them but not all so if anybody knows what they are I would love to know.

The second picture is a part for a Stanley multi plane, it might even be for a 55. I would need to look out the instructions for it to say exactly what it is.

The little plane is for making a grooves wider, I have one but not made by Preston.

I think the last picture might be an odd job, there should be a wooden rule that fits in the centre slot.
Regards,
Dave
My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

They look a little like the thingamejigs that attach to a roofer's square for setting out seat cuts and plumb cuts........or for setting out stair strings. I don't have a set, so I'm only going on something I've seen elsewhere.

I’ve got a Stanley 79 Side Rebate plane version of your Preston one.

I’ve see that Stanley part (second picture) somewhere, it keeps nagging me!

It’s a Cam Rest off a multi plane

Thanks all!
Rod, it certainly looks like a cam rest on a Record plane!

I find the breadth and depth of knowledge on this site truly astounding.

Incidentally the first item - jigsaw- is just a helical slot with the blade attachment having a pin that runs in the slot to convert the rotary motion to reciprocating motion.

This is amazingly accurate - as long as you define accuracy as+/- 5% and 'S' shaped.

It is fun demonstrating it though.

We aim to please. :)

That cam rest is the same on the Record 405 which I inherited from my grandfather. Normally takes longer to set up than to do the task at hand but a joy to use nonetheless.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Yes the last one is an odd job (with the pin missing) you can still get them.
