How many of you don't get a decent mobile signal ?

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Brain reset.

Three. Mobile doesn't work in the house or the workshop as the signal is poor. WiFi calling in the house is OK as the wifi comes straight from the router.

In the workshop I have to use Powerline adapters (see other thread) but the TP-Link set up is flakey and mobile calls via it unreliable unless you keep rebooting.

Ergo..try a different set of Powerline adapters. Enter TrendNet. Initially they worked perfectly. Result ! Then it died. The second one.

In parallel, try a different mobile provider. Vodafone. Mobile signal available in the house. Tick
Mobile signal available in the workshop. Tick.

And data. Double tick.

Applying the principles of KISS. Ditch Three. Move to Vodafone. ironically I have had this mobile number for many, many years and it is now going back to its 'home'. Yup...I started off with Vodafone then because of lousy CS moved to Orange and was with them for a very long time until they took over t-mobile abd then they got taken over......

...and their coverage here is non-existent..so two years go moved to Three as the coverage seemed OK. Vodafone have improved their coverage since then.

No brainer. Vodafone here I come !

Just hope their CS has improved :D

Whether you believe it or not ofcom https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/mobile-coverage suggest that all 4 networks will give 4G at your address.
The coverage maps for each network only seem to differ along certain river stretches to the west of you.

My approach would be to select the best coverage, testing if you can and then shop around the resellers who use that network. You will almost certainly get a better deal from a reseller than the network themselves and because they are hungry, you will quite likely get better CS too.

Buy an unlocked sim free phone for the lowest overall cost too.

That would not be my first choice as our local one is run by a trainee brain donor

I was more thinking of say Tesco mobile, Giffgaff or maybe other contract free/short contract resellers of network capacity.
I'm with Giffgaff who resell O2 and they have been faultless. £5 a month no contract gives me all I need 150mins, 500 texts 500Mb there are better ones for £5 than GG but I don't need more.

Checkout https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phone ... contracts/

Look here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/piggybacking/ for who resells each network.

Thanks for the links, Bob.

In between posting I came across mobiles who do Vodafone BUT...and your mention of Tesco reminded me....many of these resellers packages are really pared down to the bone in terms of functionality. Tesco, for instance, did not support O2's equivalent of wi-fi calling.

The Mobile rate I found is good BUT I can find nothing online to say if they provide wifi calling or personal hotspots for example...both of which I need. Also they have an expensive phone line to call to get more information and I will buy NOTHING from these shysters unless I can see it in black and white.

Yup...I was right. Following one of the links shows TalkMobile as being a 'major player' on Voda. They don't offer wifi calling.

I use wifi calling via a free app but it does require the called party to have the app as well so I suspect this won't be suitable for you.
I've not wanted a hotspot so not looked for that.
So maybe you will have to stick to the big boys.

I've been with VF for over ten years now. I rarely use much the functionality of the contract or the phones.

But, on the occasions that I sill work on site and that I need to access, say, a DfT document online, the VF personal hotspot through my iPhone lets the iPad access such stuff, and clients, Local Highway Authority officers and others present are quite impressed.

Oh why didn't I listen to you ? Their customer service is dire.

Their website is also very misleading. This is what you get when you place an order.

Then when you get the order confirmation...no sign of "next day"

I've been on Vodafone for over 20 years and have to massively disagree with you on their CS Roger. I've had a couple of issues over the years and if the Indian's haven't been able to sort it over the webchat, then they have put me through to UK based people who have.

I know you are a demanding customer at times but I can honestly say that aside from being annoyed with them that they continued to take my money after my contract ended, and given my personal circumstances at the time I didn't notice and continued paying the inflated price for 6 months, I have had no issues with them that they didn't resolve or given good reason why, very quickly.

* EDIT Admittedly, the above is poor, but I wouldn't say that is CS, but a poor website experience indeed.

I ordered SWMBO a PAYG from Vodafone online last night. Took several attempts but might be browser related. Got an email with the order number so tried to check status. Response 'invalid number'. Rang CS. On hold fpr ten minutes. Finally answered, explained the reason for calling, she disappeared, on hold for another ten minutes. When she returned couldn't tell me the status of the order.

Asked why did I have an invalid number when I tried to track the status, she disappeared again and after ten minutes onhold I gave up.

Our address details are wrong. I can alter them online with a lot of messing about but then when I go back, the changes haven't taken. Neither does the order appear to have linked with my account.

I view CS as the totality of the customer experience and not just the agent. So far, Vodafone is dire.

Fair enough, all I can say is that my experiences have been the polar opposite of yours, so a blanket statement that their CS is poor is, in my personal experience, incorrect.

YOUR experiences have been poor, and I totally understand that this then creates your opinion, but I can say for sure that this is not the norm in my interactions with them on both mine and SWMBO's accounts.

I’ve been a personal Vodafone customer since I retired 14yrs ago and from whenever mobile phones came out as a business user before that.
Never had any problems that haven’t been sorted very quickly and very few if that.
They even honoured a cockup on their part when they’d made a fairly big mistake on an online deal.

It's all kicking off, Marjorie.

Had my first OTP transaction request today. Luckily the mobile signal Gods were looking favourably on me and the text came through.

Just to confuzzle the issue a fraction and go OT slightly, there was a little snippet on the BBC today about the possibility of the UK going cashless :o by 2026 or thereabouts. Now if you can't get a mobile signal, and you can't spend your hard earned folding, I think Rog may have the right idea
