Had to chuckle when I heard the news that folk in Northumberland are not allowed to go out for a drink with their mates. Our village straddles both Cumbria and Northumberland. Come election time, we have two polling stations. We also have two pubs. Yup..one is in Northumberland. No socialising allowed. Two hundred yards away in Cumbria is the other one !

I despair. I can now see why Covid is rampant in Northumberland if the actions of people out shopping inside M&S and Waitrose is anything to go by. Standing round in groups of 6 or 7, chatting away and because masks can make the sound muffled sometimes, pulling them down to make themselves heard better.

But this all pales into insignificance considering the actions of a cretin in M&S Hexham this morning. He was standing in front of the bread counter and needed to cough. Proceeded to pull his mask down without thinking and coughed and spluttered all over the bread. Speechless. Words fail me.

I wish Covid was IQ selective.

And Corbin was spotted in a group of 9.
It beggars belief that some folk (public figures or not) think these rules (laws now) don't apply to them.

Well, that would only be the case if he were the only one to forget a mask. I have just run a random sample through my local market town, and spotted 4 or 5 who also forgot, or who removed them before exiting. And don't forget, Boris' dad would only receive a warning from the police if they spotted him without a mask. So he hasn't been treated any differently from anyone else, however tempting it is to set up an "us and them" situation every time something like this happens.

Interesting. In Waitrose, the nearest supermarket by far to where I live, and where I shop regularly. I have seen just one person, a middle aged man, not wearing a mask. He was spoken to by at least three people who also pointed him out to the security guard.

He eventually ended up at the self check out where he needed "de-aging" for alcohol purchase, which requires a key pressed onto the till. The staff member (female and very friendly to 99% of people) who was doing this job at the time announced that she couldn't do it because he wasn't wearing a mask and could not come closer than 2 metres.

He could have just stepped away 2 metres but he chose to make a fuss. This led to him being quietly asked to leave (without his shopping). I think he got the message. Whatever our views, we may as well be respectful to each other and wear the masks. It's not a big deal.

I think this is a fair question and one that a lot of U.S. citizens can't answer. The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act of1947 provide the order of succession in the event the President dies or is incapacitated before the end of the term. The first in line is the Vice President, followed by the Speaker of the House, President pro tempore of the Senate, and the 14 Cabinet members in order of the Cabinet's creation, starting with the Secretary of State.

The 20th Amendment states the terms of the President and VP shall end at noon on January 20th, which in the current case will be 20 January 2021. Only an amendment to the Constitution can change this, and amendments can take years to ratify. The term of any President or VP appointed in accordance with the 25th Amendment or the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 will also end at noon on 20 January 2021.

If the President Elect dies, or is otherwise unable to be sworn in on 20 January 2021, then the VP Elect becomes the President and completes the four-year term. The new President can then nominate anyone to become the new VP, which must then be approved by Congress.

Thinking a little bit further. What would happen to the election if Trump had to be intubated and put into a coma ?

Seconded Rob.

And Bob, I am not a complete brute; of course I do not actively wish ill on anyone. I just could not resist pointing out that the greatest, loudest, most prominent 'naysayer' of our time had fallen foul of "the virus". I was not revelling in the predicament he finds himself in, rather, I was trying to highlight (unsuccessfully it seems) the irony of it.

Anyway, I wish him - and every other host to this pestilence - a thorough recovery.

It would still go ahead, I think as Pence would be sworn in the second Trump is put under, using the 25th. As things stand he has not been replaced on the republican ticket for 2020 so any votes cast for the republican nominee would be regarded as being cast for him as the then de-facto sitting president. Would that be correct Mike?

The real kicker would be the following:-
What if trump is in a coma and Pence is sworn in before the election. Wins the election as the sitting POTUS and then after the election the donald wakes up. Will he be entitled to take over as he wasn't really voted for due to being semi-dead?

Since he's on the ballot, and still alive, the election will continue. The election process is ongoing with ballots being collected. I already sent my absentee ballot to my home state.

If he survives the election process, medically and politically, and becomes the President Elect, but dies prior to the inauguration, then the VP Elect will be sworn in as the next President of the USA and he will nominate a successor for the VP position. However, based on his past economy of the truth, the cynic in me questions the truth of his infection.

That would be a question for the Supreme Court, since they handle all Constitutional issues. We've never had anything like this in our history. Yet.

Interesting. for our post code the area is blank which according to the key is "No Data" rather than the data is zero which is what I suspect they might mean.

Interesting map. Thanks for posting. There is "no data" for my area too, but the only ones with data are coloured yellow and have only 3 or 4 cases per 100,000. As we live in a very rural location I choose to take it that this probably means that for us the incidence is less than 3 per 100,000.
