USB Problem

Postby Rod » 28 Jan 2015, 17:30

My PC running Win 7 has a problem with its USB ports - in that I cannot get it to recognise a card reader or my camera as an external drive.
It was working fine a few days ago and I could download images direct from my camera with no problems.
I've tried it with a card reader but that doesn't works too.
They both work fine on my MacBook.
I've checked the Drivers for updates but they are OK?

Any suggestions?

When I used to grub around in XP I know that there was a utility that showed the status of things like the USB ports, whether or not they were enabled etc. But I have no idea what Win 7 offers. As they work on your Macbook then that suggests a fault either with your motherboard or the drivers etc.

Have there been any automatic Microsoft system updates in the meantime? You could try a restore back to the time when you know it was working. No idea how to in Win 7, sorry.

I am assuming you've done the usual switch off and reboot?

Same goes for Macs sometimes.

And Humax video recorders

And .....the list is endless.

I find that if I shut down into sleep mode over night, I reboot in a much better operating mode too
