To add insult to injury as well as mystery, I resurrected a ancient PC running XP as a OS, after login out on the iMac in the PC browser tried to login on WHII the message in red came up and told me wrong password tried 3 times still no joy not even the CAPTU. Went back to the iMac and to login had to answer CAPTU. Still black black squares. logged out WHII killed Safari and fired up FIREFOX still no difference couldn't login. I have no extensions set or blockers.
I don't believe this machine is clever enough to say I don't like the choice of music. That 'l teach me stick to woodwork on WHII

Black box for me too now - presume something has changed at either the WHII end or the youtube end, as nothing has changed my end - if you can have 3 ends to a thread!

I find this a top tip for strange things like this as well as finding out how to do things on the forum.

On the post that you are having trouble with OR one with a feature you want to emulate in your own posts, click on the "quote button top right of the specific post.
The window that opens shows you the underlying code that is creating the to post you were viewing.

In the case of the music/video problem, copy the youtube identifier code to your clipboard or equivalent. open a new browser tab, go to Youtube and paste the code in anv view/listen.

When you have finished, either close the forum tab or hit back to return to the forum view.

If you want to copy a feature or method, look at the code and that will show you how to do it.

Hi Bob the only problem is there is no Utube identifier code to copy, usually when you click on the black square
it should be hi lighted in the task bar or under the black box. We have NUFFIN.

Are you absolutely sure you are following my instructions??

The underlying code is visible to me and I have black boxes too??

This is an apple user problem as far as I can see. I'd guess the embedded video we have in forum posts uses flash or some other code that apple will not display. Firefox used to block anything flash as it is insecure but things seem to work now so maybe they found a workaround that is safe.

Adobe have a test flash page if it is that...

Hi Rob,

I found the underlying code between the youtube quotes in my test above. Put it into youtube search and it came up with the correct video.

Youtube played ok.

WH2 videos play ok on my iPhone.

Not sure if this is a reply to Robert or Bob but it is similar to what I described and glad it works for you too.

My rather obscure PC browser has always either given black boxes or no indication that there is a link inserted at all ! but the Quote trick has always worked so much so it is an automatic reaction for me.

Curiously the links all work on my fruit powered phone using ios9.3.4 so it seem you have some discrepancy between Apples latest phone software and your Mac/Safari version?

I don't think we can do anything on the forum side but maybe Mark knows better ?

"Eureka" :text-goodpost:

Hi Bob thank you for the instruction using the quote mark. I still haven't got to grips why something that worked now suddenly doesn't, so I will have to put up with the longwinded way around it.

Yeah I noticed the same on my Mac the other day but I'm still running Lion so assumed it was that.

I haven't touched the forum workings in months so nothing's changed there, can only assume it's a browser or security update of some kind that's playing silly buggers.

I'll have a look at it when I have a moment but that's unlikely to be for a couple of weeks as I go on hols for a week on Thursday and will be doing nothing more than sleeping, playing in the pool with my kids and...erm...sleeping!

Cheers
Mark

Found this item....looks to be Youtube's fault ?

I suggest we ditch the Youtube option. It's going to be a nightmare to have to go through and alter every reference to a Youtube embedded video. Trouble is that if we don't, every so often someone is going to raise the 'black box' issue again.

Thanks Roger

Looks like there is a potential fix using the replacement BBCode so I'll have a look on the Dev platform and see how easy it is to implement. If it works as they suggest then it will resolve all existing and new ones done in this way.

Thanks
Mark

Mark is the man with the magic wand. So either he has been waving it or YouTube have relented or indeed Apple have done a sneaky update.

The return of the videos has coincided with my ability to make this mac mini talk to my bluetooth speakers!!

Brilliant double result!

Well done, Mark.

No up dates of OS since 10.11.6 or Flash prior to the black square syndrome :o :o

The military answer PFM :eusa-doh:
