hotmail ceased ,anybody know what to do ?

People - my wife's Hotmail has ceased last week . A friend has suggested she should open a gmail account , yes yes we can do that , but firstly is there any way to sort this out , any messages sent to her inbox will presumably be returned to sender marked undeliverable but we are not sure whether Hotmail is now totally dead or suspended in cyberspace . There are firms offering a solution but they want $29 .
When we log on we get the "3219" error message .

I think this is related to MS's change to outlook.

I found this - maybe it will help.

Strange. My hotmail.co.uk address is working fine both on PC and Iphone.

I cannot imagine them withdrawing the service without a) giving good notice and b) there being a great wailing and gnashing of teeth all over the web.

My hotmail account is fine, and if they switch it off I'm screwed as its my main account that I've had for nearly 20 years!

What suggests to you that it's been ceased? They moved accounts over to their 'Outlook.com' accounts but in reality that means nothing to you other than where they host your account, access and email address stay the same.

You should have had an email ages ago telling you to upgrade because Hotmail was being closed down and to 'upgrade' (in reality, just migrate, your account to an Outlook.com account.

Perhaps a call to Hotmail/Outlook support would enable them to upgrade the account for you.

HTH

Cheers

Same here, 20 years, but it still works and is a secondary e-mail account for me used mainly for business and woodwork. Main account is Gmail - family, friends, banks ..... etc.

I know that Hotmail at one stage locked the account if not used/active for 3 months.

I once had a hotmail account but I stopped using it about 8 years ago due to problems. I've since used gmail and two business accounts.

Nah, I ignore most of them! best policy with work emails, ignore them and the ones that need dealing with will get chased and the rest can sort themselves out and are just being too lazy.

An old friend of mine who's a civil servant reckons a lot of the office bods spend much time circulating the jokey emails all over the place.
