Image problem

Postby Andyp » 18 Dec 2017, 17:58

In case you guys have not looked in the turning board I have a problem with images.

Photo taken with phone, transferred to iMac by attaching to email, then uploaded to the thread. Just a black box appeared. Tried it twice.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Thanks Titch. But I do not think that is the issue. It is not an iPhone. I find sending an email the easiest way to transfer images, quicker than hard wiring the phone to the iMac and faster than using Bluetooth. Plus I can pick up the images on other devices that have access to the email.

Time you got a an iThingy, Andy.

When I go out to the few site visit I do now as a consultant, any files, vids, images, audios, notes, etc, I just Airdrop to my MacMini when I get back. It take seconds with no hard wiring.

I take photos of Mrs' craft work on my phone and Airdrop them to her MacBook.

Mrs and I share photos that way. Even she finds it simple. Ouch!!!!

You are right of course - but the cost :( . I am on €2 a month contract, no need for mobile data & have to buy my own phone, therefore Motorola MotoG at about 1/4 the price of nearest equivalent iPhone. Plus IIRC Airdrop to iOS does not work on older iMacs (mine is late 2009). So you can see upgrading iMac and iPhone just to Airdrop is not financially viable.
And, so I an told, Santa has a budget too this year. ;)

I assume you see the image correctly on the Mac before uploading? Maybe try editing it and saving again on the Mac so you have an image created on the Mac. Might prove if the email process is causing the problem.
With android you could just use google photos to backup pictures from the phone then just browse to them in your google account with a web browser on any computer. My phone pictures backup to google pictures any time I am on wifi. It is set not to use mobile data.

Yes, Airdrop is great. The wife and I are always swapping stuff between our iPads with it.

Not sure why you’re seeing that Andy but surely there’s a better way to transfer. Have you looked at apps?

A quick google found MobileTrans which looks like it’s a WiFi based file xfer app for Moto.

I imagine there are others.

Mark, as long as the problem with the Black Images is at my end and not the forum software than I will put it down to a one off glitch.
I have been moving images from phone to Mac that way for ages and it does not take long. Plus I can pick up images from other devices, and so can the missus, by logging into email and I have a back copy held on mail servers.

Dare I mention the Tapatalk App - very easy to post phone photos to the Forum.
The only problem I’ve experienced attaching pictures to emails is sometimes they are too large and need to be scaled down- I forget the maximum I can use.

Thanks Robert. Sorting it out is quite easy just so long as the problem is here and not with the forum software.
I hate being a slave to google so although I have an account, or two, I tend not to use it. I will investigate further.

Which thread are you talking about Andy because I can't see a post with two black squares, unless you've deleted them now...

Sorry Mark, I did delete them earlier last night. It was my Christmas Ticking thread in the turning board. I do know what happened but will put it down to a glitch here. I used the same process to transfer images from phone to mac to here without a problem.

Ah that’s a shame. If I knew the number of the pics from the thread then I could look at the actual image in the directory and see if they tallied up but without knowing the image number I’ll struggle.

Let me have a look at the date and time you posted originally and I’ll see if I can find pics posted around the same time...

Mark, don't waste any time on it. Image uploads have worked well for others and myself since so , as I said, a gremlin must have got into the process somewhere.
