CAD - real life animation.

Where to ask all your SketchUp related questions or share your skills (in the case of our resident Guru Dave R…).

Thanks Malc, that sounds like a darn good plan to me! :D

There's no rush of course; it's been in and out of my thoughts for around 4 years and I originally prepared the drawings almost 20 years ago. But, to start bringing this beauty into some kind of reality would be very cool indeed. 8-)

BARMAN........!! TWO PINTS OVER HERE IF YOU PLEASE!!

My only confusion is who's who in Roger's post. Bagsy be the grumpy one!

:eusa-think: ...on the other hand, I can't remember if there was a grumpy one?

Good luck with the digger today!

There's a dirty great hole where the soak away will be and the site is getting level. Piccies on my post later!

When I get a chance, I'll try and draw a circular thingy and see what I can do with it. Dave, in the U.S. might be much better than me, tho!

Hi All. I just now saw this thread. Sorry for being late to the party. And thank you for thinking I'd have something to contribute. I'm just heading out the door to work but here are a few quick things to consider.

You could use SketchUp to create the 3D model. You could use other modelers, too. If you want a very realistic appearance in the final animation, you'll need to use very good, high res textures and you you'll want to make sure you have enough texture image so you can avoid repetition which would spoil the realism.

Next you need to look for a rendering application that can do batch renders for animations. I use Kerkythea and it can do this but there are many other rendering apps around. If you want a realistic animation you'll need to have about 30 frames per second. How long would you like the render to last? For 10 seconds, you'll need to render 300 frames. Typically the renders I do take about 5 minutes each but I'm not doing anything nearly as complicated. If your renderer takes 5 minutes per frame, that's 25 hours of rendering time.

Time may not be an issue since you've been brewing on this as long as you have but it's worth thinking about.

Out the door I go.

 It's alright matey, there's no pressure. I started to look at SketchUp myself last night, but lasted all of 15 mins. I'll download it and try to focus on it.

A pint is always marvellous! 8-)
