So that photo realistic rendering is from sketchup? Not some other software using a sketchup drawing?

Impressive :)

The model was created entirely within SketchUp. The rendering was done in Kerkythea like any of the other renders of SketchUp models in this thread.

And thank you.

Latest project that I can show. This is a stand for a mini lathe that was designed to allow wheelchair users and children to turn. The original design is by a fellow in North Carolina, USA, who first designed it for his wife who is a wheelchair user. The design is also being used by a woodworking group's outreach program so there's a knock down version of it. I redesigned it to make it a simpler build and created plans for it in PDF format for the group to distribute to others who are interested in building such a thing.

So what will power the line shaft? Water wheel, windmill or steam engine? I look forward to seeing this progress.

Dave

Yes. :D

I expect a steam engine. Probably won't model it, though.

Now that is nice, the engine would keep the shop nice and warm.
I have been converting a SketchUp drawing into a fusion 360 part to try and make a new guide for my BAS315 bandsaw. It was a steep learning curve but worth the effort, I have never machined aluminum, so that will be another adventure.

Dave

Thanks.

How are you going about converting the SketchUp model? What are you trying to create with Fusion360 to make the part for the bandsaw?

Last week we were at my wife's family's cottage in northern Minnesota. While looking for something else there, I came across a plant stand that was made by my wife's grandfather in his Manual Training class when he was 15 or 16 years old. He was born in 1905. I sat down and made some measured sketches which I translated into this SketchUp model. And I forgot what I'd been looking for when I found this stand. :?

The caning doesn't match his. I expect I'll have to model it myself since I haven't found a suitable image.

Nice work Dave, and nice stand. I bet that's a lovely feeling finding something that old that has such a personal back story. :eusa-clap:

Thank you, sir.

I'm glad my wife was there to tell me the history of the piece.

My son is looking for a project for his Woodworking merit badge for Boy Scouts. I'm going to suggest he do a replica of this piece. I think it'll meet all the requirements and it could be nice for him to have his version and his great grandfather's next to each other.
