The table interests me too as it looks as if it would be nigh on impossible to assemble.

Kind of like those burr puzzles, right? Actually, I don't think it would be that difficult at all. Start with two legs with the single notched rail between them. Add the double notched rails on either side. Then add the other two legs with a single notched rail between them. The slats would probably slide in between but I believe I'd put them in before adding the last two legs.

Here's a close up.

Yes that might work but multiple pairs of hands possible advisable and then some cunning way to brace it invisibly to make it rigid.

The joints would have to be cut to close tolerances but I expect once the joint is glued up, it would be as rigid as a mortise and tenon joint.

I think that sums up my assembly dilemma. Joints cut tight enough to glue well and yet loose enough to assemble it before the glue goes off.
Some cunning fixing that could expand the leg in the area of the joint would be good.

I suppose you could add a screw from the inside edge of the single rail through the leg and then run a screw up through the double rails catching the inside finger of the single rail. The slats have a single screw from underneath at each end to secure them.

I like the stools but not the table, that evens things out a bit.

Did my sentiment miss the mark...?

I do actually like the seating items, it was the meaning of the word 'stools' that I was joking about.

And if your subtlety was even more subtle than mine then

Cheers

As long as you are laughing with us rather than laughing at us Dave then that is all fine.

You could cheat and make the "leg top" a mortice and tenon cap?

True.

I guess I don't see that the way the original was made is so difficult. A dado stack on the tablesaw would make quick work of it.

Dado's are not that common over here in the UK...as their use is frowned upon by Health & Safety to the extent that the arbors on many table saws are too short to accept them.

Nice drawing but isn't it time you converted some of them into real wood ;) :) ?

Yes. I've heard that stacked dado sets cause instant and lasting death over there. ;) The joinery for that table could be cut with bandsaw and router, too. I bet Steve's even got a jig for that.

Yes, it is time. I'm finishing up a few projects and then I think a sideboard is in order.

I got Ian out into the shop so he could build a Pinewood Derby car. I'll post pictures of that in another thread.

While poking around at expensive antique furnture over the weekend, I came across a pair of chairs that go with the black table I shared a few weeks ago. They're not really my style but I figured since I had the table drawn, I might as well do the chairs. Since the table was drawn up as components, it was dead easy to create the chair from the table.

Oh, I really like those, Dave.

On a slight digression, could I please ask you to mosey on over to this thread ?

How about a lamp fixture for your loo?

Done as a tutorial to show someone how to convert from a photo to a 3D model.

Maybe a slant-top desk in pine?

Or maybe painted red.

Can you light the lamps as opposed to them being turned off and the fixture in the sunshine?

That desk reminds me of an antique(ish) one from my grandparents that I kept for ages but ended up scrapping as no one wanted it. The legs had wooden threads on them and screwed into the body... well 3 legs did anyway. Was a shame to scrap it but had no use for it.

Must have a go at creating a light stage i can just paste the model into sometime. Your models always look more alive with the shadows and 'walls'.

Thanks Robert.

The lamps could be lit. It was just done as a quickie and I didn't want to spend a lot of time on it.

the desk is based on one from the late 1700's or early 1800's. I was day dreaming about making it so a monitor could be mounted to the inside of the top and a computer essentially built in. Hinge the top up and slide out a tray with a keyboard and mouse and be all high tech or close it up and it looks like an antique. :D

A teak and glass coffee table based on one from Italy c.1950. I doodled this out while waiting for a render for a job I've been working on.
