All football cancelled this weekend so it’s time for jobs!

Windows are all painted up and going in. Had an issue with my foam gun being clogged so spent a while sorting that then having to go and get more foam and cleaner this morning, as well as police the kids homework... but in the workshop now and hoping to have both windows in by the end of the day.

Not a a bad view from where my workbench will be situated...

Haha, I’ll be divorced if it’s not ready and the garden cleared before summer!!

Totally changes the way a building looks when the windows go in doesn’t it! Wife was very happy even with this small advancement.

If it provides any competitive incentive, Mission Control chose the paint today to contrast, maybe compliment, the French Grey of the cladding, for me to paint the door and window frames.

Just the one window makes a lot of difference to the light down that end. This will be the handtools area with the bench under the window.

Well one in is 50% of the progress I wanted to make today. I’m on-call this week and just been paged to deal with other people’s incompetence once again so I think that might be it for the day.

Kids want to play with Dad too and given I’ve been at this for a while it’s family time now.

Afternoon all

Little bit of progress this weekend. Other window in place and I’ve outsourced the making of the door to a mate given my lack of time at the moment, so he’s drawing up my idea this week to price up.

Image

All the drains (foul and grey), trunking (containing SWA, cat 6, alarm cable and two pull strings), Andi water pipe are now signed off by BCO and buried, with turf replaced and starting to look okay again.

Question for the group, my SWA has been terminated in the CU by my mate and he has told me to mark out where I want the sockets and lights to go and he will bob round when he has an hour or two between shifts and get cracking on it for me.

So my question is, what do I need?? I’ve worked on the basis of a double appx every 1.5m around the room which gives around 20 doubles around the room. I’ve asked for a couple more doubles up in the underside of the joists if my mez for keeping cables up high, and also need at least one high up for my jet air cleaner.

Anything else I should factor in now...?

Cheers
Mark

PS I have seen your derogatory comments on Malc’s post about my lack of progress. Hurtful!

Good to see this is progressing Mark.

You might want to consider at this stage some sockets that can remain powered on when the rest are isolated when you leave the building by an isolator/switch by the door.

This allows a few sockets to be left on for battery charging and perhaps background heating but leaving everything else isolated.
It is also advantageous if at least some of the lighting can remain powered up in the event of a power trip on the ring that powers the machines. This can be achieved by using RCBO in the consumer unit.
The alternative of using one RCD in the CU and conventional MCBs means that in the event of an earth leakage related trip, all the power will be cut so you might be in the dark as machines run down possibly for 10s of seconds as most braking systems will not work without power.

Naturally type C breakers on all machine powering circuits and consider a few 16/32amp outlets for future proofing.

None of these are essential but nice to haves and so much easier to install at the outset.

I note that you have not adopted BRUB (Bob's really useful bus) but brownie points for cat 6!

One really useful feature I have is an indicator in the house that the workshop is un-locked.

A quick glance at the light before going to bed reassures me. Red for open, Green for locked from dual colour led.

Cheers Bob.

I have 2 runs of bell wire and loads of room for more so BRUB is a distinct possibility.

Bugger! I'll be geriatric before Mark's party, so I guess I'll just have to have jelly and ice-cream alone at home.
