Just go with as many plugs as you can fit in. It's like machines & tools - you can never have enough :D

Looks like you will make the Xmas saw-dust deadline comfortably?

Cheers Phil

That deadline is looming and while I get the odd bit of time lately to get in there, it's in danger...

We lost my wife's father at the weekend to a combination of bowel cancer and leukemia (must have been festering in him for a good while before diagnosis) after just a 7 week period from diagnosis, so as you can imagine, everything else has gone out of the window for now...

I have been in there over the past week and started to get the final insulation around the ridge steel so I can get the flat part of the ceiling up to mount the light panels on, but not sure when I will get back in there tbh.

Life sucks quite bad right now. :(

Sorry to here that, Mark. Empathising; lost F-i-L earlier in the year.

When you're up to it, ask me about the number of sockets.

So being sick of having no mojo and feeling sorry for myself, I had a whole day in the workshop yesterday along with my good mate Mark (yes another one) who is doing my electrics.

Might not look like much but we ran in all the cables for the second ring main (along the front of the building), the lighting circuits, took down a ceiling plasterboard to run the lighting cables under it, replaced it, put up all the timbers for supporting a small flat ceiling St the ridge on which the light panels will go and the air cleaner will hang from, then finally put up a single panel to test!!

Ceiling supports were just gash bits of 6*2 left over from the rafter order. I tried to think of a number of clever ways to connect them and in the end just went with clamping them to the bottom lip of the steel ridge I-beam with another piece of 6*2 on each side and 4 screws into each. I can hang off them, all 13 stone of me, so I have no fear they can do the job.

That panel location is just to test. The air cleaner will go there with two panels either side of it. Should be more than enough!

The cavity in the ridge ceiling will be stuffed with rock wool before plaster-boarding over.

Looking good!!

Sockets! Get in as many as you can. The stuff I've been doing recently, means I can wheel the cabinet with the pillar drill, or the mortiser etc, over to the TS which has been acting as the make up table, plug in beside me with no cable stretch and I just work where I am without keep going backwards and forwards. We all had a laugh about how many I had, but for the cost, the convenience and even possibly safety is well worth it.

Cheers Malc

I've got 18 doubles around the walls, a separate double on the ceiling for the air cleaner and might possibly hand down a socket if require in the middle of the machine area, another double in the ceiling above my hand tools area, so I think I've covered the bases...

The light in there with just that one panel last night, after sundown, was adequate so with 4 at full tilt it will be like an operating theatre hopefully!

My mate is coming round in a minute to terminate all the sockets and get the lighting drops in so I can start to finish that ceiling.

I probably won't get any time on it again now until weekend though as I have a lot of work to do up to Wednesday then we bury the FiL on Thursday so I will be down South for two days.

Providing I can keep the mojo and force myself to get out and do bits constantly then Christmas should be attainable... :eusa-whistle: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I paid £18.99 per unit for mine in Feb but the sellet doesn't have the exact ones in any more. Looking at the specs these look the same ones. I need a couple more so will be getting these and hoping they match...

I am sure you know this already but just in case

The surname Trimble derives from at least three possible origins. The first of these is, that it may be Anglo-French and topographical in nature, in which case having its origin in the Latin word "tremulare" used to describe the aspen tree, which had the appearance of trembling, so a person residing in close proximity of such a tree or trees. The second possible origin is English and stems from the term "turn the bull" when in medieval times bull baiting was a popular sport and to be able to turn the bull was considered to be a courageous feat. The third possibility derives from the pre 7th century Old English given name "Trumbeort", meaning "strong and bold".

I've no idea which best suits you ;)
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Haha. Yeah I’m aware of a number of variations of theory on the name Andy.

It’s actually going to be the Manchester Bee. I’m a born and (mostly) bred Mancunian and proud of the fact. The bee symbol has always intrigued me and I did a fair bit of research into the history behind it in my early 20’s. Since the suicide bombing there a couple of years ago it has become massively popular as a symbol of Mancunian fortitude.

It will be my link back to my home town now I’ve moved a little away from it.

Trimble Towers Workshop Build - Electrics

Postby TrimTheKing » 04 Nov 2018, 16:16

Little bit more workshop time today. We buried FiL on Thursday so we’re all trying to get life back to a little normality now and this is mine.

Went out this morning and picked up 4 lengths of batten and ten off 1220*900 sheets of plasterboard.

I was going to buy full sheets and cut them down but these are exactly the right width (900mm) for my ridge ceiling so they are a bit more expensive but saves me any cutting. Painting them up at the moment while my mate is coming round later to run up a wiring loom so I can get these up and lights hung.

Image

Image

Also painting up the lengths of batten which will go the length of the ridge flat at 600mm centres to mount my LED panels and air cleaner from.

Slowly, slowly...let’s see if I can finally be in by ‘a’ Christmas!

Good progress Mark
Those smaller sheets will be a lot easier to handle not only the weight but far less flexing and risk of breakage.
On the home straight now!

Those smaller boards tend to be 9.5mm thick Mark rather than 12.5 & tend to sag over time when used on a ceiling , might be worth adding a braces in the centre of the spans if you haven’t already fitted them & if they are the thinner boards.

Thanks Doug, they are braced at the ends and middle but will also be held up by two 50*38 battens along their length so will hopefully be okay...
