Electrician's been this morning.

Tested and signed off.

That's a relief.

He actually said he'd be prepared to take me on as an apprentice.

Thanks, Phil.

Don't rush me. There's Phase 2 to go yet, but I'll be using the machines for some if that!!

Re: Malcolm's Garden Workshop (Laying another floor)

Postby Malc2098 » 19 Jun 2018, 17:00

I'm jiggling around jobs while I've got time. I've not yet tried Bob's choke on the lights yet, because I wanted this job done before I get any more stuff in the 'shop.

The OSB floor has been there since just after plinth and joists were finished. So it's seen some weather.

It's very textured now, and I've lost count of the times I've got splinters when picking stuff up off the floor. It's also a little lumpy to pull the machines around.

So I've decided to lay an 18mm ply floor on top - shuttering grade, one good side. Screw through the OSB and into the jousts and it might even stiffen up a bit more.

All the benches and machines are up one end while I get a couple of primer coats of Bedec Acrylic water based Flooring paint, light grey on the first 3 sheets.

Oh, and the Bedec was in stock at Brewers!

If only you were closer. I've got two tins of that exact floor paint (same colour) kicking around here going spare.

Well, I nearly went past Roger's on the way to overnight stop just outside Lancaster, and I nearly went past Trim's on the way to SS & SDIL in Chester, so another driveby wouldn't have been too much! :)

You'll never guess!!!

I feel such a pillock!

Although I think the floor will look really good when it's done, I didn't check the width or length of the sheets.
The floor was designed to 1200x 2400sheets covering the joists at 400mm centres.

These sheets are 1220x 2440!!

Which means their joins will not be over a joist. Will that matter if I screw them down to the nearest joist but will be an inch or two or three away from the sheets' join?

I'd whack a bit of glue underneath the overhang.

With the OSB under it I don't think it will matter.

80 sq ft completed.

It's a bit stiffer, now.

Tomorrow, somehow, I've got to lift that table saw up and over the 18mm edge to clear the next 80 sq ft!

I'd better have 3 weetabix for breakfast....or was it shredded wheat?!

In the end it was brain food, not brawn food that solved it.

Home made rhubarb jam on home made bread toasted!

Now the TS is up the other end, I've got to move all the loose stuff to reveal empty floor.

That's the floor finished. Only, the last plywood sheet was marginally thinner than the rest. Good job it's up the end and will probably be under cupboards.

Next, seal the edges and fit a skirting.
