At last with the help of my good mate, we eventually got the four settle stones, or whatever they're called, located and in place there was quite a bit of heaving and puffing, but they're all level and all in line and only 5mm out diagonally. :D

Might be a trifle difficult to close the workshop door?

Just need to convert the door in a barn style one, problem solved!

Change the doors to inward opening?

Or bi-fold

Or sliding.

Better still move the workshop :)

Once he's taken the door off and re-hung it in the right place it will open fine, I guess the issue is just that it was stuck open until then.

The deck is more or less finished. I'll make some steps in due course and i'll tidy up round the bottom.

Next, I'm going to have a go at a post and beam structure to support the roof. Saddle stones already in.

Looks good mate. You going to paint it the same colour as the shop, stain it, or leave as is?

Thanks, Mark. Good question! I'm minded to leave it as, but won't make decision till the post and beam roof structure is finished. The timber structure is local douglas fir which looks so nice, (it's stored round the back of the 'shop at the moment) that I'm minded to leave that as it is, sawn. The roof sheathing will be OSB, covered in the same black metal tile effect the 'shop has. So the OSB will be visible inside, along with all the timber and hopefully a few of my joints..

If I were to paint the deck, I think I would not choose a wood stain, but maybe a neutral grey or something like that.

But Mission Control may have other ideas! :)

I've just had a go at my first framing corner joint. Needs more practice.

The actual joints will eventually be pegged.

Looks pretty snug to me. Is it necessary for the post to have a through tenon?

Seconded. I think it could be a route in for rain/rot.

Thanks, Andy. It doesn't show up in the photo, but the post/beam m&t is a bit twisted.

I'm not sure about the need for a through tenon, but it was easier to manufacture than the stopped one.

Good call, Bob.

I'll try both stopped M&Ts on the next try.

I think I'd be looking to chamfer the top faces of the horizontals just a tad to prevent water lying on the surface.
Depending on how much you trim off, the mortice for the uprights might need to be a little shallower than currently.

Thanks, Bob.

This will be the frame for supporting the roof over the decking. The sheathing and tiling will be exactly the same as the main workshop roof. So I do hope the joints will be under cover. However, I will go for stopped M&Ts in the joints. Makes sense. I might not need to chamfer, though. The beams will be taking the rafters.

In that case I agree, no need for chamfer and indeed preferably flat to take the rafters.
