Knowing even less about metal than I do about wood I am drawing a blank on finding a source for telescopic perforated box section from a UK supplier. To be honest I am even struggling with u perforated telescopic box section or indeed untelescopic perforated box section. I have found that in the US Unistrut seem to sell exactly what is in my mind, but no luck here. Any suggestions or does it have a special name I should be searching for?
Thanks in advance,
Terry.

I spent my working life in sheet metal related manufacturing and the idea of off the shelf perforated tube - round or square is something I have never come across.
If we wanted perforated box section tube we would make it by bending 2 L angles from perforated sheet and weld them together.
maybe you should be looking for a fabricator.
There are such things as 3D laser cutters that could perforate off the shelf steel sections but I dread to think what the cost would be.
What grand scheme lies behind this then?

I'm thinking about my overhead guard. It seemed like making a support where one piece of box section slides inside the other with holes so it can be locking in position with bolt was a possible way to do it. But not something I want to spend the earth on, so maybe back to the drawing board.

Terry, I wonder if you are thinking of Unistrut. Made by a number of suppliers in raw mild steel, stainless steel and galvanised.
Google will give you sources and pictures of the section, sizes and fittings. 2m tends to be the minimum lengths sold.

Problem is Bob Unistrut in the US sells just what I want (called Telestrut) but us does not appear to be sold in the UK. Very annoying.

Thanks Steve. I know you can get Unistrut in the UK, it is specifically Telestrut I can not find, like this
http://www.unistrut.us/index.php?WP=show&GRP=Telestrut. If you can point me to a UK supplier of that...

Ah - apologies, did think it a bit odd you hadn't found unistrut in the UK! Can you not just use square tubing and drill your own holes?
