Sliding carriage for spindle moulder

Postby meccarroll » 08 Jun 2016, 07:38

Hi all don't know if anyone can help but I'm looking for some of these rollers (bobbin):

Image

Rollers so I cam make a sliding carriage top section.

Below is a base for a sliding carriage that I made a while ago. It hooks on to my spindle moulder and then a sliding carriage moves over the tubes.

This is a picture of the top roller section that I currently use, it's from my circular saw bench.

I'm looking to make my own top slider.

This is how it works with the round steel base bars.

I have tried looking myself but can not find what I need. I'd also be grateful for any information where I can obtain the pins for the rollers and bearings.

You may be wondering if I already have the top why do I need to make one, well I may be changing my saw soon so will loose the top roller section if I do.

Any help will be gladly received.

there are alternatives with a bit more work

I made my CNC, so I know lost of ways to get things moving liniarly ...

1st off though, for the bobbin, could you use 3 bearings .. 2 larger on the outer and one smaller in the center ?
Threaded rod or long bolts for the pins.

If that doesn't make sense, I'll draw it.

another option is angle iron and bearings ..

Mark , I think Tusses may have the answer . If not have a look at WDS Ltd website , they may have an alternative , I tend to look at WDS if I'm dreaming up a new gizmo .

What did you use to locate the bearings to the metal angle Tusses? Where they eccentric threaded studs if so where did you obtain them from. I think I'd need studs that are offset so I can adjust for play.

Steve I have taken a look at WDS but can't see what I need from them. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place on the site. I need a direct link really to the components. My multico tenoner has a set up similar to Tusses. I think I will need to be able to off set the rollers for adjustment (bearings) also be able to adjust the height to align for accuracy. So I need to obtain the right parts but I can't find them. First I think I need to find some offset threaded studs but where from :eusa-think:

just plain nuts and bolts from screwfix Mark.

In this set up, the tubes are not fixed at all, so if you slide the rollers all the way off , the tube will fall out !
Any play can be adjusted by packing out the back of the tube. I made them tight to start with, and just used masking tape to shim them out a bit.
you could do similar on the angle side, just shim the whole lot out to give a tighter fit.

the full CNC build is on the other place .. I'll find a link. (if that's allowed ? )

I'd make the bearings fixed and the top adjustable . much easier

if you want eccentric bolts .. car wheel alignment uses them .. try asking in your local car parts shop

Cheers and thank you for that. I would like to have a go with a CNC machine it's one area that I know very little about so the thread will be a good introduction.

Thank you for the advice about parts and suggestions to use for constructing a sliding carriage, I may just be able to draw enough info from what you have posted to draw up an actual plan.

Here are a couple of pictures of the carriage at the moment as fit to my other spindle moulder

The top sliding part is off my saw bench which might have to go with the saw if and when I replace it for one with a scoring blade (I'm going to look at one v.soon :D ).

Tusses, I read in another thread that you now have a Spindle Moulder :eusa-dance: any chance you might put up a photo on another thread?
Next you will be spending just as much (even more ££££££) for the tooling  but it's worth it ;) .

I bought it off Steve with a power feed .. (Promhandicam) off WWUK .
It's been in my Van (now off the road) since I bought it over a year ago
It was just one of those things I thought I buy to add to the collection whilst I saw it .
