Your favourite listenings......

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Beethoven's 9th symphony commonly known as 'Ode to Joy' and often referred to as 'The Choral' is superb. I've been fortunate to watch and hear this live on two occasions. The experts reckon a symphony with such complexity has never been matched since.

Here's the 3rd movement.

And here's the 3rd movement to his Moonlight Sonata.

This version has a a slight twist I've not heard before, unless it's just played differently - maybe a tad faster.

It's kind of groovy!

These are going off to the charity shop but if anyone here would like any then I can post them. Postage is £3 IIRC but that should cover quite a few.

I found an old CD at work today which I compiled several years ago, so I put it in the machine and played it. It includes Iron Maiden, U2, Led Zep, Coldplay etc. I forgot about the wonderful little surprise at the end until it played and then I remembered. It's a truly lovely contrast after listening to lots of Rock - such a peaceful soul touching hymn. 8-)

That always brings a lump to my throat, Paul, and often played at funerals. My cousin (50!!) has just died of diabetes and complications. He's arranged his own funeral and will be having some IM and LZ instead! While in the hospice, he asked me to prepare and deliver the eulogy. I've just about got it written with some fine tuning to do, and have got just over a week to learn it.

Ooooh, my mate's on that CD (King's College Choir). Believe it or not, he also toured with Pink Floyd after recording on Atom Heart Mother with them. He's still a professional concert singer (baritone).

Me too. I always associate it with WW1 and the dreadful loss.

That's awful Malc, sorry to read your sad news there. He must have been a bit of a dude to have IM and LZ arranged for his own funeral - good on him! I'm sure you'll do him proud matey! 8-)

That's amazing Mike! I wonder which voice is his. The whole arrangement is glorious, but then it is King's College Choir I guess. He must be quite a talented man! You can tell him there's one of his & colleagues videos on a woody forum 8-)

Mentioning Coldplay earlier, I thought I post this one up.

I used to be a huge fan of Coldplay. I loved the lyrics to this track - A Rush of Blood to the Head. Great album too. Reminds me of a time with an ex - years ago of course. She was an absolute nutter!

I didn't know whether to post this on here or my workshop thread, but after posting some photos on my FB page of the workshop coming out of the ground, I was reminded of this by one of my former colleagues. Priceless!

This was a great favourite of mine back in the 90's.

Here's Maria McKee singing 'Show Me Heaven' live.

What a stunning voice and performance! Very cool indeed. 8-)
