Because it's so useful and easy - I very rarely use my PC and Mac now - except for serious stuff.

Everybody should use it

I haven't looked into it, but I've noticed the last couple of times I've tried to use my photobucket app on the phone, it has failed to upload the photos to my photobucket library .. more reasons to get my photo act together then I spoze !

I am not going to use any of the other photo hosting sites don't want to have the same thing if they decide to go the same way as PB.
So sorry guys I will pop in but there are going to be no photo's of my work any more I know I am not a prolific poster at the best of times.

I have enough problem finding my way around this computer let alone a smart phone. I do own one but it takes ages to turn on the internet to allow using it that is because I forget between each time I decide to try and use it.

Derek,

I don't think that google images work within forums

BUT not to worry, Mark has been working away at a solution and we think we have a hosting scheme working on the (secret) testing site. The mods are playing with it now and it needs a tutorial writing for it but I think we are not far away from a solution.

I can confirm the testing is going well. I just crashed the test site with a ridiculously large image (an 80Mb panoramic that would cover a dozen hi res screens) but it recovered afterwards :)

Just checked and no there isn't - yet

I could link to and display a previously posted picture on the test site on another unrelated forum site. Not sure it would really be a problem though. You have to be a member here to post the thread so it would only be relevant pictures not random ones looking for hosting.

it's how it used to be done quite often !
Much better than not seeing it at all :-)

depends how much the bandwidth costs .. a lot of people are on 2,3,4 woodworking forums , and would quite realistically copy and paste a WIP thread from here into another if it was easy.

Just thought I'd mention it :-)

copy and paste wouldn't work. You'd need to a bit more internet savvy and find the URL for each picture. The links are not in your typed post...

Oh and testing recently has been very encouraging. Then for some reason the test set-up stopped processing pictures from me below a certain size. So now waiting for Mark to have some more spare time to find out why.

Once it passes all tests it will be worth waiting for as it is an easy solution for users pictures and will make pages here load faster.

As I said just having a play, not always the best way but it would mean being able to at least post something rather than nothing at all.

Not that I have anything at the moment to post as been working on a WW2 Half Track which I have been doing a WIP on a couple of sites which seems to take ages as I can copy and paste the text but still have to keep putting pictures in afterwards.

Yes I can see that.

I think the link is nearly as big as the photo though

Bob

PS MOD Note: Whilst we have no problem with experimenting with and using different photo hosts, we are quite close to having an in house solution for those that want it.

There are a few quirks to investigate and I've started writing the "how to" guide but very near now.

didn't want to tread on toes .. just seeing if there was a solution for Dalboy .. to link from somewhere he keeps his photo's anyway.

I'd hate to have to write the "how to" from everyone's individual linking requirements though !
Got Pinch sorted ..

For me .. it would be nice to link from my phone , or phone upload .. as that's such an easy way to take snaps, and it's always with me. I'll have to see if I can get on this forum on my phone . Since PB had their tantrum, I've been doing all sorts , inc emailing myself, just to get the pics off my phone onto the PC .
BTW .. usb lead doesn't work with my phone/linux setup .. but haven't had to look into that before .. and should be possible.

I did a test from my android moto g phone on our Testing site and it will be possible to upload photos direct from your phone. i have also tested from iPad. So keep with us and be patient as Bob says Mark is very close to a solution. Oh and I think that it is easier than using Photobucket.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers
