Dewalt DW110 radial arm saw

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

Dewalt DW110 radial arm saw

Postby MattS » 23 Aug 2017, 22:07

So I just bought one of these... it came up on the Facebook sale or swap group in our village for £30 this morning. I have to say I wasn't looking for a radial arm saw but it was £30. It's obviously had a fairly hard life, immediate things noticed are;

- front plate on arm with switch is cracked (plastic)
- something missing on the front of the saw guard, can see hole
- wiring has been fiddled with (most concerning)
- top handle for adjusting angle seems to have a nail through it as a pivot! I found this as I took the weight of the heavy end and it jabbed me in the chest. I can still feel it now, ouch!

So from the weight it seems to be a quality tool! I think it might be 70s?. I've not got a huge space but thinking I can incorporate into a bench alongside router. Not sure when I will start but will post photos as I start the refurb.

We have some DW RAS manuals in the drop box. Not the same model as yours but they are pretty much all the same with different arm lengths and single/three phase motors etc

I've got a DW 1753.

Good luck

Thanks Bob. Bit of googling has turned up the correct manual.

So I think I'm missing the anti kick back bar - is this just for ripping? Otherwise seems pretty complete, will just have to wait and see when I begin work if there any parts that need replacing.

The only kick back things mine has are part 3309 on page 19 of your manual.

I've never used mine for ripping. Many people advise avoiding it.
I've got a big table saw for ripping anyway.

Mine is a DW1251. I did a major strip and clean last year and cocked up the alignment, still not found the time and patience to go back and sort it out.

Like Bob I rip on a table saw.
I did ripping on the DW, forgot to drop the kickback fingers one day. It sent the piece of timber down the workshop into the garage over the Microbus roof and hit the garage door.

I have the greatest respect for the DW and the routers.

NEVER use the RAS for ripping. I tried it. It's an experience I won't forget in a hurry.......and it makes a damn mess too. You'll find it a really useful piece of kit, though, with a decent blade and if carefully set up. Don't be over-ambitious with what you can cut, and don't pull it through the work too fast because it can bind and kick, which annoyingly chucks all your adjustments out.

I put mine on my wish list when I was setting up my workshop which was planned to be a miniature version of the NYW after my hero ( )

One came up, I bought it and made a dado adaptor for it etc etc. Whilst it gets used for some jobs such as a large garden table top, I have been slightly surprised how little I'm using it. The non-sliding mitre saw taking most of the strain were the TS (in a very narrow workshop) cant do the cross cutting job.

I have a dado set for the TS , and yes, I wanted one of everything Norm had ! lol. never did get the RAS. and no room for the massive belt sander :(

I have my TS positioned so long bits can stick out the double doors for cross cutting.
But I hardly ever need it.

Don't worry no plans to rip with it. Have a Festool circular saw, after many years lusting after it. Only used on house tasks so far.

Plan to add a bandsaw in the future and for me that should do. Table saw too space hungry.
