A sort of calm before the storm Mike, getting all the parts in, final tweaks and cad/cam sorted for the legs, hopefully this approach doesn't disappoint the traditionalists.
I'm now plowing through veneering, prepared 22mm maple for the frame work, and some panels to form torsion boxes for the top and bottom of the cabinet.
I took some pictures of the panels being veneered today, using ( or most of) a method I was shown by Robert Ingham... I think Rob S knows Robert (?). Robert is an excellent maker who taught at the Makepeace Parnham School of furniture. I think this method is also shown in Robert's book.
I've shoot my veneers in a bundle with the tracksaw, it's rapid, here you can see some 2mm walnut (bit posh) backing up the cut on the top. 2nd pic pre cut.
I tape the leaves together stretching the tape, then running a length along
Flip the whole sheet and glue the joints by hanging them over the edge of the bench
Laying flat, the joints now butt jointed coopered (?) I wipe off the excess and add a couple of temp tapes to hold in place until the glue has grabbed (1hr) then I remove the temp tape from the glue face and bond it to the substrate.
This method is great for a tight joint and more importantly minimises the chance of the dreaded veneer creep.... Further still if you use a UF glue.
More tomorrow...
Jim
