I went delving in the garage yesterday for some timber for a job. Some softwood was my aim. The stuff in there has been stored for 30 years or so and has got quite grubby.
The board I found big enough was quite grubby and had beads of dry resin on the end grain so I though it is a bit of dirty pine.
Stated machining up the sizes I wanted and it turns out to be a mid red/brown straight grained wood that I think of as a mahogany substitute type stuff but it is very resinous. The sawn and planed faces are sticky to the touch and I expect I'm going to have to clean it off for bith gluing and the eventual white painted finish.
So my question is is it common for these mahogany like timbers to have much resin?
Googling has not been productive as there are many hits about gluing these wood with epoxy resin.
TIA
