The time has come...

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

The time has come...

Postby Pinch » 11 Jun 2018, 20:51

Greetings chaps, 8-)

The ultimate decision has now been made and the time is almost upon me...

I will be hanging my hat and closing the workshop door for the last time very soon.

Training for my new career is scheduled for mid July with employment to follow. 8-)

Any ideas what it might be? :eusa-whistle:

I still have a couple of incomplete threads to finish which will be done soon.

Forgive me if I've been a bit of an ar$e at times - tis the quirky stuff which makes life interesting.

Meanwhile, here's another one of those silly ones. :P

Report back soon to finish off my very last job as a professional.

Until then....

I very sorry to hear this Paul. For the industry to lose a talented designer/ maker is a tragedy. I hope that whatever you are going to be doing next gives you lots of pleasure and puts a few quid in your pocket. I trust you'll still have a home workshop?

Woodworking's loss will be someone else's gain I am sure. Please tell us you will not abandon the tools totally, you are far to creative.
Keep us posted with whatever you are upto wood related or not.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Wow Paul, that’s a shock and a shame (for us and woodworking).

As others have said, I do hope you keep working wood personally...

As for what you’re going to do, based on the video clue, coach driver...? Or based on the lyrics (I love that song) “On the national Express, there’s a jolly hostess, selling crisps and teaaaaaaa. But it’s hard to get by, when your @rse is the size, of a small countryyyyyy”. Are you going to be a trolly dolly?
Cheers

Thanks chaps, I really appreciate everything said - so lovely. 8-)

I'm going to start training mid July for my PCV Cat D license so I can drive coaches - start to finish takes about a month with theory tests and the intense practical.

This has been brewing for about 2 years. My business has been on a steady decline for a while and the clinker boat bar project is the only woodworking job I have on - which is now my last professional job. I also got myself a part time minibus driving job about a month ago with the hope of it supplementing my business - touch and go really. And then, during our first night in Spain a couple of weeks ago, Mrs P (who's a community carer) received a message to call home when she learnt her main client unexpectedly passed away that morning. Very sad within itself, but also a great impact on her income - pressure really on now.

It's been obstacle after obstacle when enough becomes enough, so I am now chasing a long lived dream which is to drive coaches abroad for a living. I have ample driving experience with having many part time driving jobs over the past years, minibus, commercial and trade plating - coach being the ultimate. Also very good knowledge of the UK road networks, plus quite a bit of experience with European roads.

So, the course is now set, with employment to follow with a local company. First three months will be the 'grunt' of the work - school runs 50-60 hours a week. After this, I'll be on the UK and continental tours. Money is pretty good plus the tips, but more so, it will be regular.

Can't wait.

Well, one industry will be the poorer for your change, but another will be the richer.

And the old ladies.....they’ll just love you!

All the very best in this venture and somehow, keep in touch. In fact, a weekly missive on school runs on this forum will keep us entertained, I’m sure, like this one!
