Buying a sliding mitre saw

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

I’ve done a few in the past and some have been tricky and some ok. This time it’s problems getting in to my account to access the online SA.

It is one of those stupid systems where you can't choose a user ID yourself and have to use one that they give you and cant possibly remember. Mine is saved in a book mark together with a strong password that I can derive if I ever forget it.

Just be aware that if that bookmark is the URL to their login page that, if they go down the line that many of the financial companies, are going then sooner or later that bookmark will give you a 404 error.

Not a problem Roger I can just open the bookmark and read my ID and notes it contains.
I also keep a backup of my bookmark file on another machine.

If ever I was to win the pools or the lottery (unlikely as I don't do the pools or the lottery...) the Bosch axial glide saws tick all my boxes.

Totally off topic .................

When clicking the link, the Ax site loads, welcomes me as South African, advises that it does ship to South Africa and quotes the prices in ZAR. Certainly a lot better than what the Hegner crowd do (they are also UK based)

That is clever and works here to. Although I confuse the issues a little by wanting to pay in GBP but deliver to France, not a problem.

I recall a few years back I had a few difficulties with TNT deliveries and asked Axminster if they could flag my account to use one of their other carriers. Not a problem. All worked well. Then six months or so down the line I needed something urgently and paid for Saturday delivery. About an hour later, got a phone call from Axminster apologising that the other carrier didn't deliver on Saturday and so would I accept TNT on this occasion ! :text-bravo:

Damn, that will teach me to start a thread and not come back for a couple of days. That woould have been a massive saving! Still I suppose I haven't done my own research yet but I take it Festools stuff is quality?

From the description it seems to tick a lot of the boxes that have been mentioned here? Also a lot cheaper option than the Festool. Just a question of quality and acccuracy on repeated cuts.

I've no complaints. But I don't have much experience of the high end of the market to use as a reference.

I've used the trenching to rough out lap joints and tenons.

Everything about it feels positive and well put together.

Found quite a few videos showing this Bosch working but no independant reviews yet. Is there anyone else has any experience of the Bosch GCM800SJ or read/seen any independant reviews?

I can give some feedback on both Makita and Bosch ...but not the same models that are being talked about here.

I had two Makita's. The reason for the second one was that the first had a really graunchy set of sliders. It was not pleasant to use. So it went back and replaced by another one. That two had a really poor set of sliders so I got rid. caveat - that was a few years back. Maybe they have improved. Maybe they have improved their customer service as well.

I have a Bosch. Had it a few years. Just recently I had need to do some bevelled cuts at 45 degrees. Something has gone out of whack because although it slides OK when the blade is vertical, trying to make the cut at 45 degrees requires the muscles of Arnie as it is so.o.o.o stiff.

Would I buy another Bosch or Makita. Nope.

Have you worked out anything yet, Malc, to fit the dust extraction port ?
