Despite my best Tichmarshian endeavours, this little corner of the garden was overhung with trees and nothing would ever grow, but I mentioned to SWIMBO that it would make a great spot for air drying timber, as there's nowhere else to do it:
Having cleared the ground and taken the soil to the dump, I made a series of paving stone piles, tamping the earth down hard and checking each was roughly level:
...and once that was done, a thick bit of plastic was used as a DPM, over which went some house bricks:
Some old wooden bearers were then placed across the piles and it was relatively easy to shim them with oddments of ply to get them all level:
The timber for seasoning was then stacked (London Plane and Oak) and if you're observant, you may be able to see the ridiculous sums I paid for it; those three lumps of London Plane were 65mm thick and £18 each:
The whole lot was then covered with more bearers and a large, heavily weighted tarp placed over the top:
