In passing, I noticed that when I selected one of the link options and clicked, the button changed to 'copied' and indeed it was in my clipboard which TBH I find a little disconcerting.

What else would you have wanted to do at that stage?

I'm pretty certain that some other photo hosts do similar with posting links

When posting 20+ photos in a thread, that is a really useful feature. One click rather than two.

Clearly copy but I don't like the idea of an external site effectively doing a CTRL-C on my computer. What else is it going to do ?

Ok but nearly every website will be doing a lot more than a Ctrl C on your computer!

Interestingly the latest photos Mike has loaded are all visible, not made any changes.

If you scroll back up the thread, I would think all of the pictures will be displayed.
The problem was not in your system but that of your ISP, they have sorted it out so now you can see the pictures.
In simple words, they have an address book that is used to look up where the pictures are stored, it had a missing or incorrect entry which has now been put right. The technical term is the DNS lookup was broken.
